Primary Function
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated PhD Research Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will focus on understanding the risks associated with microplastics and other emerging contaminants in drinking water, and on identifying and developing innovative technologies to remove these contaminants from residential drinking water products. This is a great opportunity for a creative, hands-on individual to work in our water treatment engineering research group in the development of advanced water treatment technologies and products.
Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive research to understand the risks posed by microplastics and other emerging contaminants in drinking water.
Conduct research and demonstrate feasibility of technologies for emerging contaminant reduction in drinking water.
Work with outside researchers to be aware of technology developments around water treatment for microplastics and other emerging contaminants; recognize opportunities and recommend action when appropriate.
Collaborate with global operating companies in China, India, and US to develop and implement advanced technologies for residential drinking water treatment.
Analyze and evaluate water treatment technologies through theoretical calculations, prototype development, proof of concept testing, and data analysis.
Assess the performance of water treatment equipment through lab tests, accelerated life tests, reliability tests, field tests, and regulatory testing.
Stay updated on existing and proposed regulations and health studies to ensure compliance and anticipate future needs for residential and commercial water treatment systems.
Lead and manage technology development projects following the defined AO Smith processes.
Provide technical support to CTC and operating companies’ projects and requests.
Qualifications
Advanced degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or equivalent. PhD preferred
10 plus years of related experience
Experience with microplastics and emerging contaminants in drinking water
Experience with product certification testing requirements
Customer focus
Demonstrated project management skills
Excellent communication and organization skills with ability to work both independently and as a part of a team
Open to travel including domestic and international
Preferred Experience:
Experience with water treatment filters and filter design
