Thrivent Financial Manager, Actuary – Experience Studies in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Job Summary

Leads a small-to-moderate actuarial function subgroup. Applies business acumen and extensive actuarial experience to the financial management, product management, risk analysis of Thrivent; helping to deliver competitive products while also keeping the company financially sound. Sets priorities and makes business decisions for that group in support of the development, ongoing management, analysis, and/or reporting of Thrivent’s actuarial assumptions and experience data.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provides leadership on a range of complex and challenging initiatives related to the development, ongoing management, analysis, and/or reporting of Thrivent’s actuarial assumptions and experience data.

  • Demonstrates thought leadership on experience data modernization and integration with enterprise data initiatives.

  • Designs, develops, and maintains analytical models, using a variety of corporate software tools.

  • Influences and leads development of appropriate assumptions and methods to use in models.

  • Performs and/or leads testing, analysis, and evaluation of model results, and identifies additional analysis needed.

  • Manages and directs an actuarial function subgroup.

  • Acts as a guardian of the company’s financial strength while also striving to increase the value we are able to deliver to members.

  • Recruits, develops, and sustains a high-performing team while promoting a culture of shared accountability, Operational excellence, and partnership across the organization.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • MAAA.

  • FSA Required.

  • 6 years applied actuarial experience.

  • 2 or more years leading (supervising or managing) a team of employees.

  • Considerable industry and professional knowledge, extensive in areas of expertise.

  • Ability to communicate complex ideas and technical data to different audiences.

  • This position allows a flexible work arrangement meaning you may work on-site and/or remotely from the Minneapolis, MN or Appleton, WI area.
