The MK38 Program Engineering Manager (PEM) is responsible for technical leadership of the MK38 Program. This includes managing current Production Support, Sustainment and Engineering Service activities and providing critical leadership to Emerging US Navy needs for Fast to Fleet capability enhancements to MK38.

We prefer this position be located on-site or hybrid in Minneapolis, but Louisville, KY is also an on-site or hybrid option.

As MK38 Technical Lead, you will ensure that required program deliverables, products and services are delivered on time and within cost, while meeting performance requirements in accordance with contract terms and conditions. For development engineering activities where BAE Systems is the prime contractor that involves the MK38 design agent, you are responsible for technical oversight of the work scope for meeting technical requirements. You will serve as the technical point of contact with MK38 customers, key external suppliers, MK38 Program Manager, Guns PEM, and senior-level management on engineering and technical issues. You will be responsible for engineering technical oversight and providing technical leadership and direction to our multi-disciplinary team.

The MK38 PEM will provide guidance and leadership for several technical activities including:

  • Production Support including supporting on time product and related CDRL deliveries.

  • Updating customer on production status and technical issues.

  • Support resolution of MK38 technical issues including reporting status and making recommendations to key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Provide program and technical leadership for technical instructions (TI s) operating under the engineering services delivery orders.

  • Provide critical technical leadership for in support of emerging US Navy needs for Fast to Fleet capability enhancements to MK38.

  • Obsolescence management including participation in Obsolescence Integrated Product Team (IPT) meetings with the MK38 customer. Track health of LRUs as related to component obsolescence and status of development activities to address LRU Class I design refresh resulting from component obsolescence. Duties include working with program management to identify and define funding requirements for implementing design solutions into the USN configuration.

Primary duties include:

  • Provide technical leadership to the MK38 engineering team and coordinate efforts to plan and execute all engineering tasks on the program.

  • Provide technical direction, organizing, mentoring, and decision making support to Integrated Product Team Leads and engineering staff.

  • Successfully execute all planned MK38 program milestone reviews, contract deliverables, developing and delivering all products on-time, completing actions, and executing to meet customer expectations.

  • Provide program leadership, anticipate and resolve problems, and ensure inter-group cooperation to meet all program obligations and objectives.

  • Ensure adherence to engineering processes and principles during development, production, integration, and sustainment.

  • Make presentations to both management and customers in marketing, cost and schedule, technical and contractual status.

  • Perform duties normally associated with technical supervision and direction including, but not limited to, motivating, evaluating, and mentoring employees.

  • Manage Life Cycle Management Design Reviews throughout the life of the program.

  • Ensure robust and consistent cost and schedule management controls are used by the engineering team to monitor and maintain program budget and schedule.

  • Provide consistent and timely communications of program status, issues, plans, and progress to the Guns PEM, MK38 Program Manager, Engineering staff, and customer stakeholders.

  • Ensure project and product safety are managed in accordance with company policies.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor s Degree in engineering or related discipline.

  • 10 years of engineering/technical experience.

  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.

  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams to solve technical issues associated with complex weapon systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive technical decisions using sound understanding of engineering principles.

  • Effective communication through technical writing and technical presentations.

  • Experience with customer/stakeholder communication, management and relationship building.

  • Ability to support a hybrid work environment, with >50% time in the office at the BAE Systems Minneapolis site.

  • Approximately 5% travel is expected to include international travel.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Mk 38 knowledge and experience.

  • Experience managing projects using acceptable methods for cost and schedule reporting.

  • Current Secret Clearance.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $140690 - $239140

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
