PrimaryResponsibilities:

  • Responsible forprocedure and diagnostic coding of Inpatient and/or outpatient encounters.Works closely with CDI staff to ensure accurate and compliant coding andmaximization of revenue through initial coding and appeals of payerrejections relating to coding.

  • Codes a variety of outpatient medical records using CPTand ICD-10 CM - including ancillary, ambulatory surgery center,observation and ED.

  • Codes a variety ofinpatient medical records using ICD-10 CM/PCS- including rehab, trauma, Med Surg, OB, IR, Spinal Surgery,joint replacements, Neurosurgery, CVA's, etc.

  • Query providers or theirrepresentatives regarding inappropriate, incomplete or unclear coding.

  • Follows up onoutstanding coding related receivables following standard RevenueOperations policy/procedure/process and based upon payer filing deadlines.

  • Ensures appropriatenessof payer rejections and denials for coding related reasons.

  • Responds to codingrelated inquiries from providers and support staff and others asrequested.

  • Must keep current ofgovernmental and other payor coding and reimbursement rules andrequirements.

  • Maintains quality andproductivity balance of minimum 95% concurrently.

  • Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as setforth by the American Health Information Management Association andadheres to official coding guidelines.

RequiredQualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED

  • Ability to travel to the office 2 - 3 times / year or 10% of the time for meetings as needed

  • Minimum 5+ years prior coding experience inICD-10-CM /PCS coding and HCPCS / CPT procedure coding in the acute careinpatient/outpatient hospital.

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT),Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and / or Certified CodingSpecialist (CCS)

  • Working knowledge and high level of experience withthe ICD-10-CM/ PCS and CPT / HCPCS coding classification systems, MS-DRGs,APR-DRGs, APC's, POA's, and HAC's; dependent upon whether an inpatient oroutpatient

  • You will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's USTelecommuting Policy

  • If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app,Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) orsimilar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener. When in a UnitedHealthGroup building, employees are required to wear a mask in common areas. In addition,employees must comply with any state and local masking orders

  • Requiredto have a dedicated work area established that is separated from otherliving areas and provides information privacy
