UnitedHealth Group’s Sustainable Procurement team is responsible for developing and executing enterprise-wide supplier diversity and supply chain sustainability strategies in alignment with UHG’s broader strategic objectives.

The Associate Director, Supplier Diversity, will assist the Senior Director, Supplier Diversity & Sustainability, in the management and continuous improvement of UnitedHealth Group’s enterprise supplier diversity initiatives. The role includes responsibility for developing strategies, policies, processes, objectives and reporting specific to the supplier diversity program enterprise wide. The position will also serve as a liaison between UnitedHealth Group and regional/national advocacy organizations.

This position reports through Enterprise Sourcing and Procurement (ES&P) in UnitedHealth Group and engages with all aspects of the business, including both United Healthcare and Optum.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Sourcing Category leaders in the development of category strategies, identifying qualified suppliers and achieving specific quantitative targets regarding spend and spend penetration with diverse suppliers

  • Collaborate with sourcing representatives and procurement operations towards consistently including diverse suppliers in the competitive bidding process. Track inclusion and conversion metrics

  • Work closely with UHG sales & business teams to establish & communicate the strategic competitive advantage of UHG’s supplier diversity solutions

  • Assist with diversity spend reporting and analysis; continually seek to improve existing reporting processes while promoting best business practices

  • Facilitate supplier diversity benchmarking with targeted companies and research & advisory firms to identify best practices for implementation at UnitedHealth Group

  • Provide event management for diversity conferences, trade shows and procurement meetings

  • Guide UHG’s Supplier Diversity ambassador program, driving continuous improvement in integrating supplier diversity into business & procurement processes

  • Assist in leading community outreach with diverse suppliers and key local, national and international advocacy organizations; serve as a liaison to these external organizations

  • Promote the use of diverse vendors while seeking to reduce costs, improve quality & service and minimize business risk in conjunction with ES&P’s category teams and business partners

  • Manage the Tier 2 supplier diversity program; increase program participation with qualified prime suppliers. Capture and provide ongoing reporting of program performance. Respond to Tier 2 customer requests

  • Manage the completion of all external supplier diversity reporting requests, social responsibility surveys, etc.

  • Partner with the Corporate Communications team in the development of internal / external supplier diversity communications

  • Assist in the development, management and continuous improvement of UHG diverse supplier capacity building initiatives

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 5+ years of experience in procurement / supplier diversity

  • Strong passion, engagement and deep working knowledge with supplier diversity topics, trends and principles

  • Relevant business process knowledge, as related to Procurement and Category Management

  • Ability to conduct industry and functional research and concisely synthesize findings

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel and Word)

  • Open to 25% travel

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $97,300 to $176,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
