Job Description

Position Description:

Our Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) team is passionate about bringing our medicines and vaccines to our customers around the world, while maintaining worker health and safety as our number one priority. The Associate Director of Industrial Hygiene (IH) is a member of the EHS team and a core member of the Corporate Industrial Hygiene team. This individual will be responsible for providing technical IH expertise to manufacturing sites, research laboratories and support global project teams. This individual will also lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve the corporate Industrial Hygiene program.

Specific objectives include:

  • Provide technical assistance, on basic and complex IH control solutions and IH risk management to sites and capital projects

  • Support qualitative IH assessments and IH monitoring across all sites; share lessons learned across through the industrial hygiene community of practice

  • Anticipate, recognize and control the risks associated with handling potent compounds and other chemicals. Identify and control risk associated with physical hazards (including radiation, heat, cold, noise, and ergonomics) via a sound risk management strategy.

  • Provide training and mentoring, technical expertise and hands-on site support to site industrial hygienists

  • Audit compliance to sites’ IH practices and conduct industrial hygiene program reviews, as required

  • Analyze pharmaceutical installations for IH performance and sustainability

  • Develop facility risk control strategies in line with applicable national law, industry standards and internal Company standards.

  • Support the design development, qualification process of industrial hygiene control systems and advise on cost-effective engineering controls for IH associated risks

  • Support the development of fit for purpose maintenance regimes to ensure the sustainability of containment engineering systems

  • Develop policies and procedures to facilitate the safe handling of chemical agents and materials for both small- and large-scale operations; evaluate and support verification testing of risk mitigating controls

  • Support sites to drive regulatory and Company-required PPE, Medical Surveillance and Industrial Hygiene Standard implementation and compliance across sites

  • Identify, interpret and perform impact analysis on emerging global industrial hygiene regulations, guidelines and consensus standards

  • Evaluate trends and communicate industrial hygiene incidents across sites

  • Support Global Employee Health Medical Surveillance program development

Position Qualifications :

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Master’s degree and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in Industrial Hygiene or related discipline, or

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in Industrial Hygiene or related discipline

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Working knowledge of

  • IH concepts, practices, principles and sampling techniques and instrumentation

  • IH regulatory requirements, industry consensus standards, and recognized best practices

  • Air sampling evaluations, and ability to assess the associated hazards and recommend control measures

  • Expertise in all types of industrial hygiene measuring and sampling instruments, equipment and skilled in their field calibration and use

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Demonstrate attributes consistent with our Company's workforce of the future; adaptability, flexibility, teamwork, accountability and innovation

  • Fluent in English

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Certification by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (CIH)

  • Experience in pharmaceutical or life sciences industry

  • Project management experience

  • Proficiency in other Microsoft applications - SharePoint, Teams

  • Experience with Potent Compounds
