APP currently has an opening for a Manufacturing Project Engineer - 2. This position is located in Mossville, Illinois with responsibility for the Manufacturing Strategy of all APP product lines. The incumbent will report to the APP Order to Delivery Manufacturing Engineering Manager and responsibilities includes both short and long term manufacturing strategies such as vertical integration studies, Make vs. Buy analysis, Global Footprint location decisions, Supply Chain Mapping, and other forward looking activities. Decisions made by the incumbent will affect not only their own unit, but potentially, all of Caterpillar, the market, and suppliers. Those decisions will shape complex systems, multiple products within a product line, processes or factories and customers’ perception of the company; and could have a significant impact on sales, warranty, and future product direction and cause an evolutionary effect on technology. The incumbent will partner with and provide technical manufacturing guidance to global engineering and procurement teams, recognizing that this position faces ongoing change – increased competitive pressures, increasing product complexity, and ever increasing customer demands. You will lead the planning and delivery of complex projects, continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology, mentor, coach, and assign daily tasks to team members, and broaden your professional network.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
-Project leadership of a small team tasked with engaging subject matter expertise from across the corporation, capturing facts and data from a variety of teams, departments, systems, and databases.
-Ensure all projects have well documented scope, project plans, metrics/scorecard, and team members as necessary to complete multiple alternatives comparison and hypothetical scenarios - yielding the creation of clear direction and proposals required by APP and LPSD leadership to make well-informed business decisions.
-Regularly monitors each product’s strategy metrics and triggers proactively, establishing leading indicators, to ensure Caterpillar is on the leading edge of our product’s manufacturing direction.
-Identify product cost reduction opportunities and manage approved project’s completion on time to realize forecasted benefits.
-Manage capital forecasts, coordination, and expenditure activity for manufacturing related investments, which are derived by the Manufacturing Strategy, including proper accounting and tax implications.
-Interface with many other teams within Caterpillar for successful completion of projects, such as the APP Product Group, Engineering Design Control teams, Business Resources, E&T Purchasing, Product Source Planning, Joint Ventures, Mergers, & Acquisitions team, Competitive Intelligence, LPSD Operations, Supply Chain, Logistics, consuming Caterpillar facilities’ Manufacturing Engineering/Tech Services, and many other departments.
-Work with supplier partners in the development of projects, which ensure the most efficient and cost effective systems or operations to produce quality products, and analyze their current or proposed process designs to determine feasibility of using existing designs or modify the designs to improve the process/process.
-Review project results and recommendations with the LPSD and APP leadership teams, and depending on the project - possibly members of the Executive Office, through stakeholder updates and strategy design reviews.
-Answer leadership questions about the strategy – derived from industry trends, competitor plays, benchmarking, news headlines, etc. Plug this new data into the strategy and provide clear findings on any new revelations/direction that result.
-Products in scope include all APP products, current and future, used in a wide variety of applications.
-Protect Caterpillar’s Intellectual Property.
-Four-year Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, or Supply Chain Engineering/Technology curriculum.
-8+ years of related manufacturing project leadership experience.
-Cross functional manufacturing expertise in: manufacturing, assembly, facilities, materials & logistics, supply chain, planning support, and/or project management methodology/processes/tools.
-Experience with New Product Introduction and Change Management for new technology systems and products.
-Proven experience in advanced future planning activities and feasibility studies such as: Greenfield and Brownfield facility installations and transformations, Value Stream Transformations (VST), and/or New Source Introduction (NSI) / insourcing / outsourcing projects involving new products, technology, or equipment.
-Experience with capital expenditures and managing capital projects.
-Strong analytical ability as well as thorough knowledge concerning the capabilities of both domestic and foreign suppliers, as well as their supply chains.
-Proven ability to perform complex assignments, prioritize workload, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
-Excellent Microsoft Office Skills (Powerpoint, Excel, Word, Teams, etc).
-Excellent English, including written and verbal communication, one-on-one, and in larger settings.
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
-Advanced degree, such as an MBA, or an Industrial, Manufacturing, or Supply Chain Master’s degree.
-Lean Manufacturing and Built in Quality (BIQ) experience.
-Experience with Power Systems, Power Electronics, and/or Electric Drive / E-Powertrain products that are used in Energy & Transportation (E&T) or Resource Industries (RI).
-Familiarity with Caterpillar manufacturing facilities, processes, equipment, systems, and suppliers.
-Ability to be a self-starter with strong technical leadership skills.
-Previous leadership experience as a Team Leader or Supervisor.
-Ability to communicate technical information effectively and lead concept design reviews.
-Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and collaboration skills are required in order to develop cooperative working relationships, deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific actions.
-This position will close on 9/28/2021 at 11:59 p.m.
-This position is located in Mossville, IL.
-Moderate travel (10-20%) will be required as necessary, with more travel occurring during the first few years as the APP Manufacturing footprint is developed.
