Caterpillar Inc. seeks Engineer-Performance/Simulation/Application at its facility located at 2427 Rench Rd, Chillicothe, IL 61523. Contribute to the identification, analysis, and resolution of needs and problems in a discipline for which the incumbent is beginning to build a reputation as an expert. Perform complex analysis work, identify and resolve problems. Perform integration of truck controls and plant models of components and subsystems into a powertrain system model and execute performance studies of L5 power system (the L5 power system may include subsystems, engine/battery, transmission/e-drivetrain, lower powertrain, hydraulic, thermal system) using Dynasty (or equivalent software like GT Suite or AMESim). Serve as an individual contributor to work on truck system concept performance simulation to influence early product concepts and control software design decisions, to improve the existing products by resolving performance issues and to develop or improve simulation related processes and technologies. Analyze results and assess machine performance (including fuel/energy consumption and productivity) and reliability. Although this position may be the transition from individual contributor to team leadership, the major focus of the job is on technical delivery. Incumbents will work directly with different units, suppliers, customers, and/or other teams and begin enhancing general and business skills. Requires the ability to communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner. Decisions may significantly impact product performance, durability, quality, reliability, and serviceability; leveraging new technologies; warranty; total cost of non-quality; costs; sales; and customer perception. Demonstrate excellent analytical skills and a mastery of engineering concepts. Will have direct contact with products, machines, or components while working in the field or at customer sites or may have direct contact with suppliers and customers to develop processes or resolve problems. REQS: This position requires a master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Engineering Management or a related field. Plus 3 years of experience performing identification, analysis, and resolution of engineering for diesel/dual fuel engine, transmission or lower powertrain systems or related occupation. In the alternative the employer will also accept a bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Engineering Management or a related field. Plus 5 years of experience performing identification, analysis, and resolution of engineering for diesel/dual fuel engine, transmission or lower powertrain systems or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Performing validation of 1D models through the comparison of simulation test results to on-machine test data; (2) Building machine models in tools such as Dynasty (or equivalent) and managing the model in version control tool such as GIT/Ivy; (3) Setting up cosim interface between Simulink control libraries and Dynasty model (or equivalent commercial tool); (4) GT Suite tool to build engine system models such as model simplification, model update, model correlation; and (5) Data analysis software such as DATK or equivalent to process, check the quality and plot the data against time. Travel: Less than 15% - Domestic.
Summary Pay Range:
$133,266.00 - $143,520.00
