About LPSD
We design and manufacture Cat C27, C32, 3400, 3500, C175, 3600 and C280 platforms; Perkins 4000 series and 5000 series platforms and MWM gas engine platforms, drivetrains and engine system components.
Through our global organization, we design and manufacture the most comprehensive lineup of large diesel and natural gas engines in the industry, as well as engine components and powertrains. The large engine product portfolio includes Cat, Perkins and MWM branded products. Applications include Cat machines, electric power generation, marine, oil & gas, industrial and locomotive.
Aftertreatment and Exhaust Systems (AT&ES) is the LPSD center of excellence for aftertreatment emissions solutions. Emissions solutions building blocks include catalysts, filters, Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) pumps, DEF injectors, DEF tanks, Flex Pipes and control/diagnostic strategies. AT&ES has emissions solutions for locomotive, machine, electric power and marine markets.
Role Definition
The AT&ES Senior Application Engineer is the owner of the field data/analytics strategy, aftertreatment controls software strategy, field data insights execution and product development excellence. Key responsibilities are understanding potential hardware root cause through field data analysis, software logic and system understanding, defining software and controls requirements, aligning customer value to diagnostic strategy and visibility, providing coaching and technical leadership to ensure product development standards are met. This role is a member of the engineering leadership team.
What you will do
Lead AT&ES field data review process definition and execution including but not limited to defining necessary inputs to understand system performance, understanding customer installations, identifying customer interactions with system performance, recognizing precursors of poor performance, and automating identification of a suboptimal system.
Provide direction and engineering support for complex design and development technologies involving DEF delivery systems, software and customer interactions.
Work closely with AT&ES performance, performance component and design engineers to develop a robust product line that meets performance and quality targets. Actively engage in current product activities to ensure AT&ES targets are met.
Contribute to the technical leadership and decision-making process for the company’s emissions solutions
Degree Requirement
- Degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

Technical Excellence : Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
Collaboration : Knowledge of how to lead and support cross-functional teams and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
Problem Solving : Knowledge of approaches, tools, and techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving product. process, and operational; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations. Demonstrates intellectual curiosity.
Top candidates will also have
Extensive experience in fluids engineering, component design, and software control development through multiple New Technology Introduction (NTI) and New Product Introduction (NPI) programs. Demonstrated achievement in product development excellence and project leadership
Significant fluids engineering product and process knowledge
Engine, Aftertreatment or Machine system performance development experience
Field or validation data analysis experience
Electrical component, software and controls experience

This position will close on 3/31/2025
This position will be located in Mossville, IL (Tech Center Building L or AC).
This position is currently a hybrid in-office work model, requiring a 3-day weekly office presence in the office and remote work for the remaining days. However, work arrangements may be adjusted at any time based on business needs.

Summary Pay Range:
$144,960.00 - $217,320.00
