Caterpillar Inc. seeks Sr Engineer – PERF/SIM/APP at its facility located at 14009 Old Galena Rd, Bldg F, Chillicothe, Illinois 61523.

Responsible for performing structural simulation of power systems to determine the acceptability of engine, transmission, Lower powertrain, and driveline designs for durability & reliability. Serve as an experienced, individual contributor on complex projects and assignments that support and enhance Caterpillar product performance, durability, reliability, quality, and serviceability. Position represents the journey level position for engineering related functions requiring significant, deep expertise in one or multiple technical areas. The key role of a Sr. Engineer - Performance/Simulation/Application is that of an individual contributor. This position is accountable for contributing to the identification, analysis, and resolution of needs and problems in a discipline for which the incumbent is beginning to build a reputation as an expert. Responsible for performing complex structural simulation of Caterpillar power systems to determine the acceptability of engine, transmission, Lower powertrain, and driveline designs for durability & reliability and identifies and resolves problems. The major focus of the job is on technical delivery. Incumbents may work directly with different units, suppliers, customers, and/or other teams, and begin enhancing general and business skills. Requires the ability to communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner. Decisions may significantly impact: product performance, durability, quality, reliability, and serviceability; negotiations with suppliers; leveraging new technologies; warranty; total cost of non-quality; costs; sales; and customer perception.

REQS: This position requires a Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree, in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Materials science, Aero-Astronautics Engineering or a closely related field. 5 Years of experience using linear and nonlinear Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and performing structural simulation of mechanical systems or related occupation. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master’s or foreign equivalent degree, in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Materials science, Aero-Astronautics Engineering or a closely related field. 2 years of experience in using linear and nonlinear Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and performing structural simulation of mechanical systems or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have 1 year of employment experience with: (1) Creo or similar commercial CAD software; (2) Abaqus; (3) Hypermesh; (4) Fatigue life calculation; and (5) Bolted joints and welded structure simulation.
