The Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

Job Summary

The Test & Validation Senior Associate Engineer implements and improves testing, development and validation techniques, processes, tooling and machinery to maximize product quality. This role is responsible for product validation and evaluation of metal face seals manufactured or purchased finished by Caterpillar. The position will support NPI, CPI, and maintenance engineering work on metal face seal designs for Caterpillar products and for our OEM customers’ products. The position interacts closely with our seal design team to ensure the performance, quality, and cost competitiveness of the product line.

  • This position is located in Mossville, IL and does not provide relocation

  • 10% or less travel expected with this role

What You Will Do

  • Resolving issues regarding the design or manufacturing. Ensuring design acceptance and manufacturing readiness

  • Participating in the adoption of new technologies and processes (automation, robotics, computer aided manufacturing software, etc.) to achieve greater efficiency, cost reduction and quality improvement

  • Planning and improving testing procedures and operations to make the test more reliable, efficient and cost-effective.

  • Monitoring results, machine and process capabilities and performance reliability

What You Will Have (Basic Requirements)

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Materials Science

  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail : Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision. (Basic Understanding)

  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems. (Working Knowledge)

  • Product Testing : Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing. (Working Knowledge)

  • Effective Communications : Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. (Working Knowledge)

  • A strong Mechanical Aptitude

  • Experience working with/on Caterpillar products

  • An understanding of equipment / machinery

  • Hands-on experience with mechanical seals, lab testing methods to evaluate these seals, and metrology of seals and sealing systems

Summary Pay Range:

$87,480.00 - $131,280.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
