Hyatt Area Human Resources Manager - Calistoga Motor Lodge & Alila Napa Valley - Full-Time in NAPA, California

Overview: The Area Human Resources Manager will oversee HR functions for two distinct and unique resorts—Calistoga Motor Lodge & Spa, inspired by the classic 1950s American road trip experience, and Alila Napa Valley, a luxurious retreat offering serene landscapes, world-class dining, and immersive guest experiences.

The Area HR Manager plays a key role in fostering a supportive and engaging workplace culture, ensuring that both properties attract, develop, and retain top talent.

This highly visible position is based at Calistoga Motor Lodge & Spa, where the Area HR Manager will oversee day-to-day HR operations, including employee relations, training, performance management, and compliance with company policies and labor laws. While primarily responsible for HR functions at Calistoga, this role will also support recruiting efforts for Alila Napa Valley and perform additional HR duties at both properties as needed. The Area HR Manager will provide HR coverage at both locations when the HR Director is absent, working closely with leadership teams to support business goals while ensuring that every team member feels valued, supported, and empowered to deliver exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities:

· Recruitment & Onboarding:

o Oversee the recruitment process, including posting job openings, screening resumes, coordinating interviews, and sourcing top talent.

o Support hiring managers in managing the recruitment process to ensure a seamless, efficient experience.

o Act as a liaison between candidates and hiring managers throughout the recruitment process.

o Extend job offers, manage background checks, and ensure the completion of required new hire paperwork before and on the first day.

o Lead and facilitate the onboarding process for new hires, ensuring timely completion of pre-employment activities and a smooth integration into the company culture and hotel operations.

o Organize and lead regular orientations (Welcome to Hyatt) for new hires to familiarize them with the company culture and operations at CML.

o Coordinate and participate in career fairs, both on and off-site, to source potential candidates.

· Compensation & Benefits:

o Back-up for bi-weekly payroll close in absence of Coordinator and may be asked to fund weekly tips, ensuring accuracy and compliance with labor laws.

o Respond to wage verification requests.

o Assist HRD with wage surveys and market research to maintain competitive compensation practices.

o Maintain detailed and accurate records of employee wages, taxes, and deductions.

o Field employee concerns related to payroll discrepancies, overtime, tax withholdings, and deductions, etc.

· Employee Relations:

o Foster a positive workplace culture that encourages teamwork, open communication, and employee engagement.

o Address and resolve disputes between employees, or between employees and management, to maintain a harmonious workplace.

o Provide coaching and support to managers on employee performance issues, ensuring alignment with Hyatt standards and values.

o Collaborate with HRD with conducting investigations into employee complaints, such as those related to discrimination, harassment, or unethical behavior, and recommending corrective actions.

o Partner with HRD to facilitate training programs to enhance skills, service standards, and career development.

· Safety and Wellness:

o Collaborate with managers to lead safety and wellness initiatives including forming and chairing the Wellness Committee at CML and driving employee recognition programs. Maintain Hyatt’s processes to educate managers and colleagues about safety and wellness.

o Partner with hotel management to reduce/correct work safety concerns.

o Regularly review employee handbook, policies and SOPs to ensure all reflect current laws as well as best and safe practices.

o Oversee worker’s compensation claims, leaves of absence, and employee accommodations (CML).

· Growth & Learning

o Provide support to both hotels in absence of Area HRD

o Taskforce opportunities in other geographical locations may be available as part of the role. While participation is optional, it is highly encouraged to support career development and gain diverse experiences within the company.

o 10%-15% of position will entail providing on-site accounting support:

§ Accounts Payable: Processing invoices, ensuring they are accurate, obtaining approval, and scheduling payments.

§ Accounts Receivable: Responsible for counting and reconciling cash and bank receipts to ensure accuracy and proper documentation of all transactions.

§ Other duties as requested

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred OR HR certification (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP) strongly preferred.Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of HR experience, preferably in the hospitality industry.Skills:o Prior experience using Spanish in a Human Resources environment strongly preferred.o Strong understanding of employment law, labor relations, and HR best practices.o Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build trust and rapport with all levels of staff.o Proficiency in HRIS systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and applicant tracking systems.o Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.o Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.o Demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.o A passion for hospitality and a commitment to fostering a culture of service excellence.
