Project Overview:

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. Bechtel will design and build Phase 1 of the Ohio One project, a total of 2.5 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of cleanrooms. Construction will require as much steel as ten Eiffel Towers and as much concrete as the tallest skyscrapers. Bechtel will strengthen future economic development in the region by partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline.

Job Summary:

The Survey Party Chief is responsible for providing field and office support as required to the construction survey team and reports directly to the Area Lead Surveyor (ALS). The Survey Party Chief interprets design drawings and specifications to determine associated commodities and equipment locations and provides direction and supervision to their assigned field survey team in support of the civil, structural, mechanical, and piping installations in the work area.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical direction to direct-hire survey crews.

  • Support the survey team’s implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programs.

  • Responsible for the accurate layout of construction work, recordation of field data according to job specifications and appropriate methods of performing survey activities.

  • Utilize survey instruments in conjunction with Bechtel survey procedures including Robotic Total Station and GNSS equipment.

  • Perform Calibration Baseline checks of survey instruments.

  • Support the administration of the survey work request program.

  • Perform and/or check survey computations as required in the performance of duties.

  • Provide Civil project completion documentation including "As-Built" records

  • Perform verifications of subcontract survey work

  • Support the UAV/Drone team’s operations.

  • Support the 3D Laser Scanning operations, including reality capture.

  • Support the Metrology team’s operations.

  • Provides direction and training to less experienced survey team members

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Multi-Disciplined Field Engineering Survey experience with earthwork, excavation, concrete, structural steel, mechanical, and piping, etc. installation layout and verification

  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience

  • Demonstrated experience with Trimble Robotic Total Stations, Digital Levels & GNSS survey systems, and Access field software

  • Proficiency with 3D Survey CAD software, including the ability to perform and check digital computations for generation of survey layout data and drafting of as staked/as-built data; generate DTMs and compute volumes

  • Experience with providing survey support for UAV/Drone operations

  • Experience with Laser Scanning hardware and software

  • Experience with Metrology field & office activities

  • Must be physically capable to participate in project walkdowns, which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in, or maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces, and lifting up to 40lbs without assistance.
