Johnson & Johnson is currently recruiting a Director, Editorial Content and Channel Strategy to develop and lead the J&J Innovative Medicine newsroom that aligns with Enterprise resources. This position is based in New Brunswick, NJ on a hybrid schedule.

Position Summary

The Director, Editorial Content and Channel Strategy offers a unique opportunity to build and manage a newly established Newsroom for Innovative Medicine, leading the charge in shaping and amplifying the J&J Innovative Medicine narrative globally through internal and external digital channels.

The Director reports to the Vice President, Global Reputation and Engagement and will play a pivotal role in leading a talented team to create compelling content that resonates with and engages our key stakeholders, while ensuring alignment with our corporate values, goals, and strategic objectives. In addition, you will provide oversight to the development and execution of our artificial intelligence (AI) strategy.

Your strategic acumen and creativity will be instrumental in establishing J&J Innovative Medicine as a truly distinctive, global pharmaceutical company leveraging our unique stories to build our reputation with employees, health care providers, payors, patients, advocacy groups, regulators and other critical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead the Innovative Medicine Newsroom, developing a comprehensive editorial content strategy and overseeing content creation, curation, and distribution across various channels.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify key themes, topics, and narratives aligned with the company's vision, values, and strategic business objectives and brand positioning. Oversee the strategies and processes to streamline themes and channels with communication teams throughout the organization, building efficiency and transparency into the organization.

  • Lead a team of content creators to produce high-quality, engaging news and communications across various formats (e.g., articles, blogs, videos, infographics) that resonate with internal and external target audiences and drive brand affinity.

  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices to continually innovate and enhance our channel strategy and approach to storytelling and connecting with audiences.

  • Define and implement strategies to optimize content distribution channels, including owned, earned, and paid media, to maximize reach, engagement, and impact.

  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI technologies to support the work within J&J Innovative Medicine to enhance communication initiatives, streamline processes, and drive innovation across the organization. Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies to continually innovate and enhance our approach.

  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including senior leadership, subject matter experts, and regional teams, to identify content opportunities, gather insights, and ensure alignment with key messages, priorities, and business milestones.

  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to systematically evaluate the effectiveness of content and channel strategies against goals. Utilize data-driven insights to inform decision-making, refine tactics, and drive continuous improvement.

  • Uphold brand standards, processes and guidelines across all content assets and channels, ensuring consistency in messaging, tone, and visual identity while safeguarding the company's reputation and integrity.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the editorial content and channel strategy team and across the Global Reputation and Engagement function. Provide guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to enable team members to thrive and grow in their roles.

  • Manage direct reports and agency partners as needed.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or a related field.

  • 10 years of experience in editorial content creation, channel strategy, and/or brand communications, preferably within a multi-national corporation or agency environment.

  • Five years of team and performance management experience.

  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing editorial and channel strategies that drive brand awareness, engagement, and reputation enhancement.

  • Strong strategic and growth mindset with the ability to envision, articulate, and establish new systems, processes, and workflows that address evolving business needs and challenges.

  • Able to balance strategic vision with practical execution, ensuring that content and creative execution align with overarching business objectives and deliver tangible value.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams to achieve shared goals.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for storytelling.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization and influence stakeholders across functional boundaries in a global, matrixed environment.

  • Proven track record of leveraging data and analytics to measure performance, optimize strategies, and deliver results.

  • Proficiency in content management systems (CMS), social media platforms, and digital analytics tools.

  • Proficient knowledge of AI technologies, including machine learning, natural language processing, and data analytics, and their application to communication and marketing.

  • Flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively and with urgency.

Preferred

  • Experience leading direct reports and agency partners.

  • Demonstrated success within a matrix corporate environment.

Worked within the Healthcare, Pharmaceutical/Biotech, or MedTech industry.

Salary

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $142,000 to $244,950.

Bonus

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.

Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation – 1up to 20 hours per calendar year.

Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year.

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year.

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year.
