Johnson & Johnson is hiring a Director, Engineering & Design (E&D), Americas . This role will be based in either New Brunswick, NJ, Horsham, PA or Titusville, NJ .

The Director, Engineering & Design, Americas is accountable for direction of capital project related engineering and design activities in alignment with J&J E&PS business objectives and Project Delivery Practices. This includes defining, identifying and securing appropriate tools, internal and external technical resources and coordinating the efforts of technical team members and third-party design firms or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan.

This role is responsible for leading the Americas region E&PS Engineering and Design group, setting regional operational strategies, establishing business focused goals and objectives, continued talent development of the workforce and alignment with both internal and external business partners to enable execution of regional engineering and design activities.

A suitable candidate for this role will have proficiency in project/design management, including acquiring agreement on project definitions and priorities, and ensuring that resources, capabilities and processes are in place to deliver the design efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop yearly business plans and objectives that support the overall J&J E&PS goals

  • Ensures that programs stay on plan by resolving resource conflicts and removing obstacles, which may involve negotiations at a senior level Establish plans for talent development, diversification, and professional development for group.

  • Ensures that proper risk management analysis and plans are in place for all projects and technology implementation

  • Ensure metrics for engineering performance are met and plans are in place to provide continuous improvement

  • Ensure application of efficient work practices for group processes. Ensure continued improvement and update of these practices with lessons learned

  • Provide regional guidance on technology and engineering issues to all functional areas

  • Develop yearly business plans and objectives that support the overall J&J E&PS goals

  • Advises and correlates short- and long-term tactical engineering plans and programs based on strategic departmental plans

  • Oversee the front-end design process including all aspects of design (Arch, Mech, Elec, Process, Automation, etc.)

  • Oversee development of Requests for Proposal (RFP) for Architect/Engineer (A/E) services and A/E interviews/selection and on-boarding process

  • Assure the strong performance (cost, schedule, quality) of A/E firm and define correction action plans if necessary

  • Assure that the J&J IDEA Project Delivery Process is followed and assure use of Value Improving Practices (VIPs)

  • Assure the appropriate J&J guidelines, and regulatory requirements (cGXP, EHS, …) are incorporated to deliver compliant and efficient project designs

  • Assure key design reviews are held with SMEs and other corporate or affiliate resources such as EHS, Risk Management, WW Security, etc.

  • Assure that the J&J Standard Design Platforms (SDPs) are deployed on all projects

  • Assure that projects meet the J&J Sustainability policy and drive the certification process

  • Work with Senior E&D and Project Delivery leadership to implement regional resource support and charge out model for projects

Qualifications

Education:

  • University/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, in Engineering, required

  • Masters in Business Administration or Science preferred

  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt certification preferred

Experience and Skills

Required:

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant Engineering experience in Project and Operations Management required; 15 years of relevant engineering experience in project and operations management preferred

  • Prior experience managing design elements of major capital ($50MM to $500MM) projects in Supply Chain Manufacturing, R&D, Distribution Centers and Offices

  • Experience in GxP regulated Manufacturing environments

  • Experience in leading groups and developing individuals within an organization

  • Experience managing the design effort on large projects

  • Strong record of leading teams to ensure completion of significant projects

  • Strong experience with Pharmaceutical and Medical Device manufacturing processes

  • Strong Communication and Facilitation skills

  • People Management and Coaching experience and demonstrated record of mentoring others

  • Ability to interact in a multicultural environment

Preferred:

  • Experience working within multinational Engineering firms

  • Previous People Leadership

  • Experience in critical thinking and conversion to tangible action plans

Other:

  • Proficiency in the English language is required

  • This position will require 50% domestic and international travel

  • The anticipated base pay range for this position is $142,000 to $244,950
