Position Summary

The Senior Training Specialist position reports to the training manager and is responsible for the oversight and support of training processes. The position provides direct feedback on training products developed in accordance with the systematic approach to training (SAT) to ensure training programs meet the accreditation objectives and criteria as defined by the National Academy for Nuclear Training. Primary responsibility is for oversight of accredited training programs, with some responsibilities associated with non-accredited training programs. Incumbent will also serve as the performance technologist supporting the development and maintenance of the instructor training and qualification program, performance trending and improvement process and corrective action program coordination.

Responsibilities

Instructor Training and Qualification Program

  • Subject matter expert for SAT training processes and procedures

  • Coordinates initial instructor training. Supports through participation in INPO certification process with instructor and provide all documents and materials for successful completion

  • Provides mentoring for each new instructor from entry into the initial instructor training course through qualification as applicable

  • Develops and facilitates instructor continuing training

  • Maintains oversight of instructor qualification process and completion of annual requirements.

  • Evaluates instructor performance in all training settings and makes recommendations for improvement to management

  • Reviews data streams to identify trends

  • Analyzes inputs for incorporation into the Instructor Training Program

  • Acts as a training conscience to leadership in areas of instructional, SAT and accreditation issues

  • Manages the database for instructor hours and observations and execute all related reports

  • Maintains instructor continuing training program backbone schedule

  • Supports development and revision to fleet training procedures

  • Maintains current on new adult learning techniques and training practices.

  • Attends training related seminars and conferences to identify emerging training technologies. Effectively implements new techniques and technology to continuously improve nuclear training

  • Provides instruction in other program areas as needed

Performance Improvement and Corrective Actions

  • Serves as the SME for the NAS program and the performance improvement process at Harris Nuclear Plant (HNP)

  • Conducts screening IAW AD-PI-ALL-0100 for training related NCRs and apply the appropriate screening comments. Initiate all actions leading to closure of related NCRs

  • Responsible for screening and acceptance of NAS actions

  • Provides reviews of other NAS actions such as TRF, PRR, etc. to ensure actions are appropriate and leading to timely completion

  • Provides screening of fleet for validity and creation of actions to enter the SAT process

  • Provides oversight for the Performance Trending process

  • Generates the training data package for the Performance Trend Forum and provides to HNP Training management for review

  • Interface with the industry to identify opportunities for HNP to support benchmarks, self-assessments and mock boards

  • Serve as SME for nuclear reporting services and provide all requested reports for HNP personnel.

Training Assessment and Benchmarking

  • Analyzes performance to determine assessment and benchmark opportunities

  • Develops and maintains the long-range and annual department assessment and benchmark plans; provides oversight of assessments and benchmarks

  • Coordinates with station, fleet, and industry peers to build assessment teams and facilitate successful implementation of assessments and benchmarking activities.

  • Reviews completed assessments for trends and critical issues reporting to appropriate training management

  • Complete other tasks as assigned by management

Required/Basic Qualifications

  • High School/GED degree

  • 6 years related work experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Nuclear Instructor Qualification

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Qualified Nuclear Station Instructor with a minimum of 3 years work related experience

  • Formal training in adult learning and/or instructional design for a systematic approach to training desired.

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication and presentation skills for communicating information and addressing issues in a clear and effective manner to varying levels of employees and management.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and human relations skills, e.g., influencing skills and listening skills, to deal effectively with all levels of management and employees.

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze concerns/issues, develop logical conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.

  • Demonstrated project management skills to develop innovative, creative ideas to address complex training-related problems, concerns and programs.

  • Demonstrated presentation skills to speak effectively to large and small groups.

  • Demonstrated group process skills to effectively facilitate various groups.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities to influence and provide direction to team members and to advise management of team members’ performance and project status.

  • Ability to recognize the need for new or different systems, programs, or applications and selection of appropriate alternatives to solve problems.

  • Demonstrated project leadership skills to manage complex projects and to develop innovative, creative ideas to address complex training-related problems, concerns, and programs.

  • Ability to analyze and apply new training methods, applications, trends, and events impacting the field of Adult Learning.
