Pfizer Senior Director, COVID Vaccine Launch Excellence & Strategy Lead in New York City, New York

ROLE SUMMARY

Pfizer and BioNTech's breakthrough COVID-19 vaccine is launched all around the world with Conditional Marketing Authorization (CMA) in the EU and Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in the US and other regions/countries. Like other COVID-19 vaccines approved during the pandemic period, current market access for Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine has been through supply agreements in 2021.

Although our understanding of the disease epidemiology, virus mutations and duration of protection of vaccines continue to evolve; in the post-pandemic period, it's likely that COVID-19 vaccinations may be an annual vaccination, potentially like flu. In the post-pandemic market dynamics, vaccine uptake will be dependent on numerous commercial brand interdependencies and driving market and patient-centric opportunities for our vaccine.

This role represents a major opportunity to contribute to the strategy for one of our most visible assets, partnering with a team of global marketers for our breakthrough product with significant lifecycle opportunities in an increasingly competitive, rapidly evolving market and disease landscape as well as future mRNA products that transition to the GLocal team as applicable

The Sr. Director COVID Launch Excellence & Strategy Lead role is accountable for:

  • Leading product strategy and commercialization of product life cycle plans

  • Ensuring strategic alignment with regional and country leaders in the US, IDM and Emerging Markets; enabling co-creation of innovative initiatives with the Glocal team

  • Ensuring successful new launches and country launch readiness by working closely with the country launch navigator network

  • Driving evolution of the global brand platform and omni-channel promotional tactical mix in an increasingly competitive market space

  • Mapping out patient access pathways in key markets and market architypes, developing product value proposition to enable broad patient access in the post-pandemic period

  • Looking to the future with the COVID vaccine lifecycle and beyond to other potential mRNA vaccines when identifying key strategic issues and decisions that impact current commercialization planning

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Leading product strategy and commercialization of product life cycle plans

  • Lead strategic brand plan

  • Oversight and input to operating plan and forecasting

  • Develop market archetyping, go-to-market model

  • Contribute to commercial assessments for new life cycle considerations

  • Identify discussion on strategic topics that requires alliance team alignment at Joint Commercial Committee

  • Collaborate with cross-functional leads to provide key commercial input/insights into medical, regulatory, manufacturing, pricing/access workstreams, value proposition development to ensure product uptake

Ensuring successful new launches and country launch readiness by working closely with the country launch navigator network

  • Provide expertise and collective advantage knowledge sharing to optimize local launches

  • Provide oversight and support for launch operations lead for new formulation and country launches, track launch progress

  • Provide oversight on interdependencies across workstreams; diligent tracking of all key product milestones; ensure timely transitions from global to local functions to ensure launch excellence

Driving evolution of the global brand platform and omni-channel promotional tactical mix in an increasingly competitive market space

  • Ensure coordination and alignment with alliance team brand strategies and brand platform

  • Lead development of a differentiated global brand platform (branding, positioning, core campaign, message platform) and brand platform evolution over time as new data published and label updates occur

  • Develop innovative omni-channel global marketing initiatives that ensures strong customer engagement

Mapping out patient access pathways in key markets and market architypes, developing product value narrative to enable broad vaccine recommendations and uptake in the post-pandemic period

  • Lead development of global guidance for stakeholder mapping, market shaping and communication plan to ensure vaccine uptake in close partnership with PHI, medical and public affairs team

Contribute as an active member of the global marketing leadership team; ensure franchise and portfolio view when identifying key strategic issues and making decisions; ensure synergies, relevant initiatives, communications and resource utilization

Accountable to connect with the Biopharma Launch Excellence team; understand specific resource needs of the COVID team and work with the Senior Launch Navigator to deploy those effectively and efficiently. Gather and maintain lessons learned to share learnings and grow overall Pfizer Launch Excellence

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA or BS required; MBA preferred

  • 15+ years broad business experience including deep understanding of innovative pharmaceutical operations, less with advanced degree. Broad knowledge & experience of pharmaceutical industry and healthcare environment a plus. Preference for vaccines experience

  • Prior experience with a US and/or global product launch preferred

  • Previous Marketing experience and strong business acumen in marketing strategy development and tactical execution

  • Strong strategic planning skills including creativity and effectiveness in identifying and managing major strategic challenges, defining and realizing incremental growth strategies and balancing short term needs and long-term vision.

  • Track record of successfully operating and achieving results in a matrix and/or Alliance environment, influencing stakeholders and leading change

  • Adept at cross functional leadership, influencing others and building high-performing, diverse cross-functional teams

  • Comfort with ambiguity, and complex "white space" environments as well as fast changing market and commercial planning dynamics

  • Be an active contributor to create and operate in an environment that continuously embraces and encourages the implementation of innovative ideas and fosters a culture of collaboration and teamwork

  • A commitment to excellence - both in the results achieved and in how they are achieved.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work on multiple tasks with a strong sense of urgency and enthusiasm while prioritizing and meeting team goals.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • US (NYHQ or Collegeville) based role with international travel of up to 30%
