Job Description:

The Business Selection & Conflicts Group (BSC) is the first point of contact within Investment Banking on potential new business mandates as well as queries regarding ongoing transactions. BSC clears all new potential business mandates to confirm potential conflicts of interest are anticipated, identified, and managed and monitors mandates on an ongoing basis to appropriately manage potential conflicts of interest. BSC drives decision making on business selection issues to ensure the firm is committing to the most attractive opportunities. In addition, BSC provides a central hub of information for current and historic involvement in transactions.

BSC is a global group based in New York, London and Hong Kong that interacts on a daily basis within investment bankers as well as with various functions within Investment Banking (legal, compliance, finance, businessoperations). Since all new investment banking mandates must be analyzed by BSC before they are accepted by the firm, the group works in a very demanding, time sensitive environment.

The BSC Associate position is based in New York. The position primarily will be responsible for assisting in the conflict clearance process, interacting frequently with investment bankers globally as well as internal support partners. Candidates should have strong analytical skills, an unyielding attention to detail, enthusiasm about learning the business, and ability to work effectively with a team.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • The ideal candidate has 2-3 years of transaction-oriented experience in a business, legal or compliance-oriented role.

  • Investment bankingexperience/understandingpreferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Attention to detail; high standard for data integrity and quality work

  • Ability to learn quickly; comfortable with facing a steep learning curve and working progressively more independently in a relatively short time frame

  • Resourcefulness; ability to think creatively to solve problems and anticipate potential questions or issues

  • Effective time management and prioritization; strong multi-tasking abilities

  • Experience working in a team environment

  • Commitment to personal responsibility and taking ownership of independent projects

  • Comfortable handling access to confidential informationAbility to quickly and efficiently navigate various information systems
