The U.S. Consumer Services Team is responsible for our suite of consumer products, services, and experiences in the U.S., including our premium, cobrand, cash back, and lending portfolios, Membership Rewards, Global Travel & Lifestyle Services, the Centurion Lounge network, our Global Dining and Resy businesses, U.S. Consumer Banking, and best-in-class marketing programs across customer, prospect, and partner channels . The U.S. Consumer Marketing team (USCM) is part of the US Consumer Services Group and is responsible for making membership essential by creating and delivering world class marketing for our differentiated products and services that drives demand and inspires engaged card members across the customer lifecycle. Within USCM, the Marketing Analytics & Investment Services team (MA&IS) delivers critical targeting, analytics and planning capabilities that enable USCM to make optimal investment decisions and ensure that our best current and future customers can be rewarded with great offers and marketing treatments.

Within Investment Services, the Customer Performance Insights team (CPI) mission is to help enable the growth strategies of marketing teams working in the Customer space, providing deep insights into channel performance versus goals and over time, supported by a suite of world class, automated reporting assets based on a future proof data infrastructure.

We are seeking candidates for the role of Director, Customer Performance Insights (CPI) that will report directly into the Vice President of Investment Services. The director will lead a team of four managers and partner closely with marketing leadership in the Customer Growth, Customer Loyalty Marketing and Cobrand Partnership Marketing to deliver on CPI’s mission. They will also work closely with American Express Technologies to ensure the ongoing management and development of underlying marketing data, and also with Finance and Marketing Analytics teams that supply critical customer economics data that is integrated with CPI outputs.

The director will be joining at a critical and fascinating time in which the CPI team is on a journey to improve and uplift existing capabilities to enable and produce more tangible, faster, and more streamlined investment insights, that work in concert with business intelligence available in the broader Marketing Analytics team. This role is a strong opportunity to influence and drive better outcomes for one of the largest marketing budgets within the blue box.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Lead a geographically distributed team (NYC, Phoenix, India)

  • Set the agenda for reporting and analysis deliverables with marketing leadership in the Customer space (Customer Growth, Customer Loyalty, Partnership Marketing)

  • Manage the planning cycle with AET and EDDS partners, for the development and implementation of new reporting capabilities, including a unified marketing data layer

  • Produce insightful ad hoc analysis and deep dives into marketing performance across the Customer space

  • Serve as the champion for the quality of data flowing in from COE teams that comprise the IO infrastructure supported by CPI

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years’ experience in an Analytics environment

  • 3 years’ colleague management experience

  • Strategic thought leadership and desire to convert data insights into business outcomes, in collaboration with cross-functional partners

  • Proven ability to direct and influence complex and matrixed planning environments and make space for the development of next gen solutions

  • In depth knowledge of AXP data systems

  • Strong data skills, requiring deep knowledge of SQL and SAS (or other querying languages, e.g. Python)

  • Experience working through data quality issues in a matrixed environment

  • Strong customer facing communication skills

Qualifications

Salary Range: $150,000.00 to $225,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
