About Credit & Fraud Risk Finance

Credit & Fraud Risk (CFR) Finance team delivers fact-based, decision-driven and high-impact credit-risk related insights and deep analytics, PNL stress tests to support regulatory views and governance processes and the forecasting of Net Loss Provision. The key objective is to drive prudent financial decisions and support credit-risk strategies while ensuring adherence to governance and controls. This position will be part of a highly talented team with strong intellectual curiosity.

Director, Stress Test Modeling

About The Director, Finance Models & Stress Test Platform

This position plays a critical role in creating robust projections for Volumes to be used in Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR) exercise. This position will deliver best in class Billed Business and Loans predictive models to be used in regulatory exercises. The Director will also be responsible for defining & evaluating non model volumes projection methodologies, assessing results, and driving ongoing enhancements through data, technology, and people. This person would be a critical member of the CFR Finance & AXP Stress Testing organizations and will work with key stakeholders to deliver stress testing results in regulatory and management forecasting exercises.

Impact You’ll Make

  • Lead the development and maintenance of best in class econometric models used to forecast volumes for US portfolios and key international markets in close collaboration with larger stress test modeling team

  • Analyze portfolio/market trends and identify key drivers of forecast performance

  • Partner with stakeholders across Finance, Risk, Treasury, Technologies, and the TM1 Development team to deliver on forecasting goals

  • Work in very close partnership with MRMG to continually assess & rationalize modeling methodologies, theory in line with industry best practices, update model documentation to ensure compliance with AEMP55 (Amex Internal Policy)

  • Own non modeling methodologies for forecasting smaller portfolios which cannot be modeled.

  • Present the results to senior leadership connecting forecasting results to business outlook

  • Rationalize forecasting results and methodologies to various internal and external stakeholders, including Model Risk Committee (MRC) Model Risk Management Group (MRMG), Internal Audit Group (IAG), AENB Board of Directors, Federal Reserve Board (FRB), and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC)

  • Lead, develop and inspire an engaged team of 2-3 professionals on various stress testing exercises across AXP, including Bank Holding Company and local market Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) and American Express National Bank (AENB) Macroeconomic Stress Testing

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proven leader with strong communication and influencing skills; Ability to create a vision and successfully lead team to execute on said vision

  • 5 years of relevant experience with a Master's Degree in quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or Computer Science

  • Hands-on experience managing/ leading projects using large amounts of data and application of advanced predictive analytics

  • Experience leading decision science teams with strong knowledge of card economics. Regulatory modeling experience is preferred

  • Significant level of proficiency in SQL, Hive, Python, PySpark, Regression & Machine Learning Techniques

  • Hands-on experience working in close partnership with tech teams to get the modeling solutions implemented

Qualifications

Salary Range: $150,000.00 to $225,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
