The Global Liquidity Risk & Exposure Management (GLR&EM) team is a part of the Global Treasury Organization at American Express. The Exposure Management portion of team’s core remit is to manage the company’s exposure to market risk through investment and derivatives and ensure compliance with the company’s market risk management strategies and risk tolerance levels. The Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our foreign exchange (FX) and interest rate risk (IRR) management programs. This includes driving our market risk management strategies, recommending investments and hedging activities and ensuring compliance with our risk management policies.
Key responsibilities will include:
Monitor new market conditions and prepare market risk management (FX and IRR) strategies considering evolving regulations and changes in AXP’s balance sheet activities
Quantify AXP’s FX risk on forecasted earnings and make hedge recommendations
Perform monthly IRR forecasting and guide the capital markets team with hedging instructions
Assess investment opportunities and monitor AXP’s investment portfolio in compliance with the company’s investment policy
Prepare and lead market risk management committee and investment committees presentations and ongoing senior management communications covering market risk updates and various other initiatives and governance activities
Maintain & update AXP’s derivative and investment policies
Liaise with cross functional teams to drive market risk governance and monitoring process to ensure adherence to the derivative and Asset Liability Management (ALM) policies
Collaborate across the broader Treasury organization to align market risk strategies across other balance sheet management strategies
Minimum Knowledge & Skills Required
10 years of related experience in areas such as market risk management (FX and IRR) and capital markets
Excellent communication and leadership skills and the ability to simplify complex information into concise and coherent story across a variety of leadership levels
An ability to think and thrive in a dynamic, but often ambiguous environment
Excellent analytical abilities with strong attention to detail and the ability to work proactively and independently
A proven track record to build strong working relationships with cross-functional partners to take projects from start to completion
Ability to handle datasets in a controlled manner to ensure accuracy in reporting
Understanding of basic principles around derivatives, regulatory and control environments
Advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint (visuals, storytelling slides etc.)
Experience with other visualization tools (e.g. Tableau), analytical tools, and TM1 is a plus
Qualifications
Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
