The American Express Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C) team is a strategic function that works to enhance and protect the continued strength of the American Express brand through public relations, social media and content, colleague communications and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

The Director will be responsible for ensuring that all CA&C processes are documented, communicated, consistently applied, and audited appropriately

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Ensure Governance around all CA&C owned and managed policies, including compliance with Enterprise and Bank policies.

  • Establish a procedure documenting the external communications content approval process

  • Establish a procedure documenting the internal communications content approval process

  • Oversee all CA&C applicable regulatory/policy mandates are being implemented across all CA&C owned/managed processes (Privacy, Accessibility, Complaints, Artificial Intelligence, Conduct Risk, etc)

  • Provide direct risk mitigation support to various leaders within the CA&C organization

  • Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures are created for all CA&C owned and managed processes and oversee the creation of a Standard Operating Procedure repository.

  • Oversee a team that provides risk mitigation support to the various teams within CA&C and ensure all CA&C established procedures are being followed

  • Collaborate with the CA&C Process Management team to ensure all documentation has been properly reflected in the applicable Process Risk Self Assessments and that appropriate controls are established

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7 years’ experience in Risk Management and/or Governance.

  • Strong understanding of Operational Risk Management.

  • Proven success at developing and executing strategies that better identify, communicate, and manage risk.

  • Strong problem-solving skills; ability to see the big picture with attention given to critical details.

  • Willingness and ability to understand the underpinning of procedures and processes and determine root causes of issues the influence procedure

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities under pressure.

  • Strong business acumen and demonstrated thought leadership

  • Proven ability to adjust quickly to shifting priorities and provide clarity in ambiguous situations.

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Proven people leader who can build, inspire, develop, and coach a team.

  • Excellent relationship, collaboration, and presentation skills with ability to interact and influence leaders across all levels and teams in a matrixed organization.

  • Self-confident with a strong sense of integrity and the ability and willingness to challenge and be challenged.

  • Ability to communicate key risks to colleagues, business partners, and senior leaders.

Preferred Qualification:

  • MBA or advanced degree preferred.

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
