How will you make an impact in this role?
The Enterprise Data Strategy team, in Credit and Fraud Risk Management (CFR) is responsible for optimizing risk decisions through the lifecycle by identifying, testing and integrating internal data with external data assets. The team manages data, strategy, and relationships with key third party data providers to support risk products in new accounts, customer management, and collection practices. The team also serves as a critical channel for the exploration of new data opportunities for the firm.
The Director will lead our newly expanded US Commercial Data Strategy and Analytics team, composed of skilled analysts/sr. analysts and managers/sr. managers. This team is dedicated to optimizing the value of existing data and to define the roadmap for US commercial data that will help uplift marketing strategies, underwriting process, and credit risk management decisions for the US commercial portfolios. The remit of the role spans across the commercial lending landscape from small and medium enterprises to multinational companies. The candidate will drive data innovation in collaboration with our strategic partners, help deepen in-house expertise on commercial bureau data assets, lead new behavioral data product development in partnership with decision science teams, and enhance our data capabilities to accelerate growth in US commercial space, while enhancing our data capabilities to accelerate growth and controls. In addition, the director will also lead analytics vertical working across consumer & commercial data needs.
Responsibilities include:
Drive US commercial data strategy across the customer lifecycle through structured and risk-based principles
Manage third party relationships and lead external contract negotiations
Develop metrics and MIS to deliver strong controls and insights available from the data
Explore traditional and alternative commercial credit data/services
Work closely with Risk Strategy, Modeling, Capabilities, Compliance, Operations, and Business partners to manage and govern third party data strategies
Lead complex analytical projects which includes data mining, modeling, research, and capabilities development to support change management, operational risk events, and strategic decisions
Communicate effectively and appropriately to all relevant stakeholders including business unit presidents, senior management and other colleagues, customers, third-party and affiliate service providers, industry thought leaders, and regulators, among others
Design and implement processes, workflows, and systems in pursuit of increased efficiency and effectiveness as well as compliance with all laws, rules, and regulations
Have consultative skills able to work in a dynamic cross functional environment
Be able to handle urgent escalations and time sensitive risk events
Attract and retain talent through setting and communicating goals, measuring accomplishments, holding team members accountable, delegating responsibilities as appropriate, and providing developmental feedback and coaching
Lead by example and embody a culture of compliance consistent with the American Express Leadership Model, including managing diverse relationships and acting with honor and character
Qualification
Advanced degree in a quantitative field or equivalent work experience and an understanding of credit data sources
8 years of strategy, information management, credit risk or related work experience
Deep understanding of marketplace innovation on data, digitization of content, and rapid transformation of 3rd party data assets
Working knowledge of commercial payments, commercial lending, risk and financial management platforms is desired
Strong technical skills to direct data evaluation, analytics, and matrices tracking/reporting
Knowledge of Python, SQL, Spark, SAS, and familiar with big data and cloud environments
Superior process, project and relationship management skills
Ability to multitask, prioritize and work under tight deadlines
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate strategic vision and goals, and presenting in senior forums
Qualifications
Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
