American Express’ Global Advertising & Brand Management (GABM) team is responsible for creating marketplace demand and driving commerce for American Express through differentiated and innovative branding, marketing, and experiences. Within GABM sits the Global Brand Strategy & Insights team, responsible for defining & accelerating the Amex Brand Strategy, delivering consumer insights, and elevating tools and learnings for the global Marketing Community.

Our team is looking for an experienced Senior Manager – B2C Marketing and Advertising Insights. This role will partner closely with senior leaders across Brand Planning, Content, Media and the Consumer Business Units to provide insights driven, thought leadership on how to find, attract and engage our best customers. This position reports to the Director of Marketing and Advertising Insights.

There will be three key areas of focus:

  1. Deliver consumer, competitive, and cultural insights to help define the strategy for our B2C communications

  2. Lead research to guide development and optimization of marketing communications

  3. Partner to build and deliver a best-in-class marketing and advertising insights practice across the company

This role is suited for insights professionals and marketers/strategy individuals who relish the opportunity to drive change by championing the voice of the customer, linking insights to commercial outcomes. This role requires a self-starter, with demonstrated effectiveness of consultative skills, brand and advertising expertise, and strong analytical skills.

The ideal candidate must be proactive and have the ability to build relationships with multiple internal and external partners and agencies. Time management, detail orientation, agency and budget management, drive for results, executive presence, presentation skills, and excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills are imperative.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Build strong relationships and embed across planning, content, media, B2C BU teams and their agencies

  • Demonstrate research, marketing, and business acumen

  • Identify research needs and design research plans against business objectives, timelines and budget

  • Manage research agencies and work-flow to ensure quality and accuracy, cost efficiency, and timely completion of projects

  • Synthesize data from multiple sources and translate findings into actionable consumer insights and recommendations

  • Contribute to a culture of innovation by finding new and better ways of doing things

A qualified candidate:

Is able to translate research findings into compelling and actionable recommendations for the business

  • Takes a consultative approach; helps to articulate and prioritize information needs and translate into ‘researchable’ objectives

  • Strong analytical skills with ability to design research programs and methods to address business needs; can articulate rationale

Can effectively build relationships, partner, influence, and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels (i.e. BU, Dir, VP, SVP)

  • High energy, strategic thinker with proven ability to influence business partners and impact commercial outcomes

  • Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills with exceptional ability to inspire action

  • Strong executive presence with high degree of comfort in working with and presenting to senior leaders.

  • Has the agility and judgment to “read the room” and appropriately adapt to situations; is able to think on their feet

Demonstrates corporate maturity

  • Is a self-starter. Able to efficiently prioritize, problem solve, and handle changing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Operates with a can-do attitude. Effectively works through conflict or ambiguity and proactively seeks solutions to problems

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7 years in consumer insights / market research; at least 2-3 years leading research to support marketing / advertising

  • Strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

Preferred Qualification:

  • Mix of research or ad agency and client-side experience a plus

  • Marketing or market research related post-graduate degree a plus

Qualifications

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually bonus benefits

The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
