BMO Global Markets is seeking a US Agency Mortgage Strategist, based in NY, to join their best-in-class Mortgage Sales and Trading franchise at the Director or Managing Director level (depending on experience and qualifications). The US Agency Mortgage Strategist will provide market-based publications, content, and commentary to BMO’s Institutional Clients. This will also include insight on market trends/technicals, prepayments speeds, policy changes etc.

  • Expert level understanding of Mortgage cashflows, prepayments and prepay models.

  • Weekly strategy publications that highlight market color, news and relative value.

  • Monthly speed publications and commentary.

  • Broader monthly or quarterly “thought piece” that discuss hot topics like bank regulation, policy changes, or Investor trends.

  • Commitment to travel to see clients, speak at Client events, speak on Industry panels and play a Leadership role.

  • Build strong client relationships, working closely with the BMO Sales team, with regular connectivity and dialogue.

  • Fosters strong internal and external networks and works well in partnership with multiple teams.

  • Good understanding of adjacent fixed income sectors, such as Treasury/Rate markets, Structured Credit, etc. so as to be able to do good relative value analysis.

  • Develops and/or facilitates development of client-focused solutions based on financial expertise, organizational, technical, regulatory and environmental client awareness.

  • Be a tireless BMO Agency Mortgage brand ambassador.

  • Identifies and delivers on opportunities to improve the client experience; brings in partners where appropriate; delivers a full BMO experience.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Agency Mortgage Strategy or Research

  • Minimum 10 years of Agency Mortgage or related experience

  • Established track record of Publications and Client following

  • Public speaking engagement experience a plus

  • Series 7 and 63 licenses

  • Strong quantitative analysis, technology and financial analysis skills

  • Strong risk management skills, fundamental analysis skills and leadership abilities

  • Seasoned expert with extensive industry knowledge.

  • Technical leader viewed as a thought leader for innovation

  • Verbal & written communication skills – Expert

  • Analytical and problem solving skills – Expert

  • Collaboration & team skills; with a focus on cross-group collaboration - Expert

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
