An opportunity exists within the General Counsel’s Organization’s Corporate Development, Strategy & Antitrust team, which is responsible for, among other things, providing all legal support for the Company’s global acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, minority investments and long-term strategic vision. This role would operate largely in support of the Corporate Development team, including Amex Ventures, who are collectively responsible for the Company’s transactional activity, and the Enterprise Strategy team, who are responsible for formulating a long-term strategic vision for American Express.

Role & Responsibilities:

Help propel your team and its business partners to success.

Here’s just some of what you’ll do in this role:

  • Providing legal advice and guidance on a range of global transactions, including (i) stock and asset purchases, (ii) divestitures of subsidiaries and/or business units, (iii) corporate restructurings, (iv) formation and reorganization of joint ventures and (v) minority investments in fintech and other sectors.

  • Negotiating and drafting definitive documents for the Company’s global transactional activity

  • Working closely with other stakeholders throughout the enterprise, including subject matter experts within the GCO and with stakeholders in Finance, Compliance, Tax, IP, Technology and Government Affairs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in transactional activity and qualified to practice law in relevant jurisdiction

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to manage and prioritize competing demands while maintaining high attention to detail and meeting deadlines

  • Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and persuasively, in both oral and written format

  • Ability to build relationships and partner with others to drive results

  • Capacity to be agile and pivot appropriately when challenged with new information or evolving circumstances

  • Strong interpersonal relationship and networking skills to build and maintain effective professional relationships across all areas of the organization

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Juris Doctor degree

  • 7 years of relevant experience involving M&A and transactional activity in a corporate setting or a private transactional legal practice

Qualifications

Salary Range: $220,000 to $320,000 annually bonus benefits
