Dow Chemical Machinist in Newark, Delaware

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs production requirements: disassembles equipment to diagnose and remedy problems; determines parts to be replaced or produced; overhauls or rebuilds machinery or equipment; constructs new machines, dies, jigs and fixtures; operates all shop machines; determines sequence of operations; performs setups; selects speeds, feeds and tooling; grinds tools; performs operations fits, finish, file, grinds, lap, polish, scrape, assemble and adjust mechanism; works from oral and written instructions, drawings, and specifications; sketches parts to be made; determines quantities of material needed; uses all types of precision measuring tools; and works to tolerances as close as plus or minus .0005 inches on non production work.

  • Participates in achieving the company quality goals: dedicated to reducing product variation and to the spirit and body of continuous improvement; strives for a better understanding of our customers’ requirements; maintains proficiency in problem solving techniques; embraces the concept of teamwork; takes ownership for the quality of the products produced and services performed; and provides excellent internal and external customer service.

  • Operates in compliance with company safety practices: complies with and aids in the development of departmental safety rules; ensures all equipment and machinery is in good working order and operates in a safe manner; follows procedures for handling and disposal of chemicals; monitors area for hazards; uses safety equipment when required; and maintains a safe, clean work area.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Manual dexterity and usage of various tools is required.

  • Excellent mechanical and mathematical abilities are required.

  • Must be trained and proficient in all relevant departmental positions.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and have the ability to learn new systems quickly.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills are required.

  • Must have strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills.

  • Demonstrate leadership skills - inspire others and lead them through influence.

  • A self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks.

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

  • Must be able to do the following with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Must be willing and able to work in such environments wearing safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.

  • Must be willing and able to wear a respirator.

  • Must be willing and able to work in such environments with frequent bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be willing and able to work in such environments working in tight or closed-in spaces.

  • Must be willing and able to climb stairs/ladders and working high off the ground.

  • Must be willing and able to stand or walk for extended periods of time.

  • Must have a current, valid US driver’s license.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years of job shop experience.

  • Prior experience with SAP.

  • Prior experience with CAD.

  • Prior experience with welding.

  • Prior experience using saws, lathes, milling machines, grinders, and presses is preferred.


  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required.

  • Journeyman Machinist Certificate required.
