BAE Systems Senior Material Estimator in Norfolk, Virginia

Job Description

Located in a U.S. Navy mega-port and principal commercial area, Norfolk Ship Repairs (NSR) primary customer is the U.S. Navy. The NSR shipyard is perfectly positioned to serve the requirements and needs of the Navy. The NSR team strives for superior customer satisfaction and on-time delivery of a quality product. NSR team also maintains extensive safety awareness programs, environmental protection best practices, and a clean, orderly facility. The full-service repair facility is ISO 9001 1994 and located on the Elizabeth River with excellent access to Hampton Roads, the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

NSR is currently looking for a Senior Material Estimator that would be responsible for:

  • Material estimating of bids provided by the Lead Estimator or Contract Administrator. Performs review and analysis of work specifications, drawings, prints and technical manuals to develop material estimates for new and growth work for repairs on US Navy and Commercial Ships.

  • Develops Bill Of Materials (BOM) and obtains pricing and availability for material identified on specific work item(s) or referenced drawing(s). Develops and maintains Long Lead Time Material (LLTM) list to ensure material requirements will meet availability milestones.

  • Verifies material to be ordered is covered by the scope of work, thereby prompting the requirement for generic report(s) / sequence(s) as required. Generate Pre-Proposal Inquiry (PPI), Request for Clarification (RFC), and Inspection/Deficiency Report (IDR), as required regarding government furnished information, customer furnished information, and material problems and issues and take appropriate action on all answered correspondence.

  • The Material Estimator is responsible for assisting programs and operations and craft personnel in identifying material problems.

  • Understanding of Bill of Materials and Material Requirement Program (MRP) planning. Review and ensure that all estimates are complete, accurate and submitted on schedule.

  • Must be familiar and able to read U.S. Navy specifications, drawings, prints and technical manuals.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment with minimal immediate supervision.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Good planning, time management and organization skills.

  • Sound interpersonal skills used when interfacing, coordinating, and negotiating with company personnel, customers, and suppliers.

  • Ability to use computers to prepare appropriate reports and documents.

  • Proficiency in use of word processing, spreadsheet, and database development programs (such as Word, Excel, Business Objects, and Access).

  • Ability to make decisions using sound judgment while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.

  • Perform similar, incidental, and other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years of experience or equivalent experience

  • Understanding of Bill of Materials and Material Requirement Program planning.

  • Building BOM

  • Understanding part numbers

  • Must be familiar and able to read U.S. Navy specifications, drawings, prints and technical manuals.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Good planning, time management and organization skills.

  • Sound interpersonal skills used when interfacing, coordinating, and negotiating with company personnel, customers, and suppliers.

  • Ability to use computers to prepare appropriate reports and documents.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Prior Superintendent, Machinist, Electrical or Pipefitter experience

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $73778 - $125422

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
