Merck Director, Marketing Ophthalmology in North Wales, Pennsylvania
Job Description
It is an exciting time to join our US Pharma Business and focus on the unmet needs within the ophthalmology therapeutic space. Our most advanced investigational product is a phase 2b/3 tri-specific antibody that acts as an agonist of the Wingless-related integration site (Wnt) signaling pathway with an initial indication in diabetic macular edema. The ophthalmology business is expected to create meaningful, long-term impact for patients living with retinal diseases and, in turn, drive growth for the company.
We are currently recruiting for a Director, US Marketing, Ophthalmology in our US Pharma Business. This is a business-critical role that will be responsible for developing the early US commercial strategy and shape the marketing environment for a successful new product launch. This role will require a high-level of proficiency in strategy development, marketing excellence and collaboration with our commercial and non-commercial teams in the US and Global. This role will report to the US Commercial Lead for New Products in the US Pharma Business.
Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
Oversee foundational marketing strategy and planning, including patient journey development, positioning, targeting and segmentation
Map the patient journey in collaboration with internal & external partners to identify roadblocks that impact optimal treatment; develop commercial model recommendations that enable positive patient outcomes throughout the journey
Collaborate with market research, competitive intelligence and analytics team to generate key insights that inform business decisions
Gain deep understanding of market dynamics, market trends and competition to make effective go-to-market recommendations and adjustments
Embed the US commercial perspective within the development program and with cross-functional teams to create a profile and commercialization model conducive for launch success
Lead key strategic projects that drive product strategy and commercialization pre-launch
Manage promotional budget and develop annual long-range forecast assumptions
Education Minimum Requirement:
- Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education:
- MBA or related advanced degree
Required Experience and Skills:
Minimum seven years (7) of marketing or commercial experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry
Proficiency in developing marketing or commercial strategy, executing tactical plans, business performance data and key indicators, competitive planning and accountability for product growth.
Broad enterprise mind-set when making critical decisions or recommendations.
Ability to understand, interpret, and translate complex clinical data into clear communications.
Influencing without direct authority and working successfully with cross-functional teams and multiple agency partners
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Strong understanding of the US access and regulatory environment
Product launch or launch planning experience
Experience in applying agile values, principles, and practices into business operation

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

The Company is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this job in certain states and cities within the United States. Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and education.
Expected US salary range:
$181,600.00 - $285,800.00
