Job Description

Our Company's Global Vaccines is a diverse team of professionals building on 130-year legacy as a global leader and innovator of pediatric, adolescent and adult vaccines. Global Vaccines is part of our Company’s Human Health Global Marketing Commercial organization, a results-focused, motivated team of sales and marketing professionals who are passionate about bringing our Company's prescription medicines, vaccines, and other medical products to patients worldwide. The Pneumococcal Vaccines Franchise team leads global marketing strategy and execution for the pneumococcal portfolio, including inline vaccines as well as a number of innovative pipeline assets.

The pneumococcal vaccines market is valued at more than $7B and is expected to nearly double in the next decade, with the pediatric market representing 60% of current market value and a key growth driver for our Company. Our pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) is approved in adults and expected to launch worldwide with a pediatric indication within the next 2 years, representing our first entry into the PCV pediatric market.

The Executive Director (ED), Pediatric Strategy is a strategic commercial leader and problem solver responsible for directing global pediatric vaccines strategy for the pneumococcal franchise throughout the product lifecycle. This person works with key divisions across the organization to frame business needs and deliver strategies that grow the business, generate profit, and contribute to our Company’s mission to bring lifesaving medicines and vaccines to patients worldwide. This is a high-visibility leadership role, reporting to the Global Commercial Lead, Vice President, Pneumococcal Vaccines, and currently includes 3 direct reports, including marketing professionals who support franchise strategy and planning to realize the significant growth opportunity in the pediatric space.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Responsibilities for the Executive Director, Pediatric Strategy are significant and touch the entire organization, including our Research and Development division, our Manufacturing Division , and Human Health (HH) to help secure a significant investment in people (1,000+ company professionals) and finances (more than $1B in our supply chain and $750 million in clinical studies). The ideal candidate will continue to raise the visibility of the program with successful product launch and commercialization.

Lead Global Pediatric Vaccine Marketing Strategy

Understand, investigate and respond to the complex, highly competitive pneumococcal vaccines landscape with strategies that differentiate our company's vaccines and deliver competitive advantage in the pediatric space:Lead pediatric US and global launch

  • Shape the commercial PCV pediatric product profile and value for the corporation by working closely with our Research & Development division and Product Development Team to execute the Target Product Profile & Product Label (EU SmPC, US FDA and Core Claims Document for the rest of the world)

  • Work with cross-functional colleagues across disciplines including: Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, Medical and Scientific Affairs, as well as Health Economics, Market Access & Policy, by making key decisions that will dictate future growth opportunities for the brand

  • Work with Global Medical Affairs, Scientific Strategy, Market Research, Global Content Marketing and Global Communications on marketing campaigns and scientific communications, including key messages and scientific narrative, based on scientific differentiation

  • Generate strategic insights from scientific leaders and other stakeholders

  • Contribute to development of internal and external communications plans, working with key colleagues and partners to coordinate and execute messaging in alignment with launch milestones

Lead Global Pediatric Vaccine Commercialization

  • Guide markets in aligning tailored region and country-specific marketing approaches with overall global strategy

  • Drive commercial launch timing and launch readiness through engagement with international markets and subsidiaries as needed

  • Ensure development and execution of a comprehensive market access strategy, including pricing guidance, tender strategies and launch sequence

  • Oversee annual pediatric marketing budget on behalf of the Global Marketing team

  • Represent the commercial team across a wide range of internal senior management governance forums, including members of executive committee and various functional and geographical area Sr Vice Presidents and Vice Presidents

  • Successfully engage and manage agency partners as needed, overseeing branding, product packaging and marketing campaign development

  • Collaborate with IT and legal to develop digital solutions to gather robust analytics, generate insights and support strategy refinement

Empower Franchise Objectives through Leadership Excellence

  • Forge deep relationships across the enterprise and quickly become an integral, well-respected partner across the broad pneumococcal program and commercial organization, including key markets and regions

  • Direct and mobilize a diverse, cross-functional global team by deploying new ways of working with consistency, integrity and highest ethical standards

  • Manage and develop a small team of 3 direct reports, coaching and mentoring for optimal skills development, professional effectiveness and personal growth

  • Model positive mindset and behavior for others, and serve as an advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion

The position is primarily home-office based, with occasional in-person visits to Upper Gwynedd, PA, or Kenilworth, NJ locations.


Required: BA/BS

Preferred: MBA or PharmD

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 10 years of pharmaceutical industry product marketing to consumers and/or healthcare professionals

  • Proven product launch experience at the market or global level

  • Track record of successfully contending in diverse markets and developing new markets and/or channels

  • Experience leading and coaching teams to achieve shared goals, and a passion for developing people

  • Experience interacting with key public health and policy stakeholders, with demonstrated executive presence

  • Knowledge of digital platforms for customer analytics and customer engagement

  • Ability to proactively own responsibilities and lead with maximum autonomy

  • Strategic, innovative thinker with a learning orientation and desire for personal excellence

  • Exceptional communicator with strong verbal, written and presentation skills

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Vaccines and/or pneumococcal vaccines experience is a plus, with preferred significant vaccines commercial perspective across sales and marketing, experience in product development teams, and insight into other critical areas that are necessary to demonstrate the full value of our vaccines, including outcomes research

  • Broad, enterprise-wide perspective that puts the patient at the center of decisions

  • Passion for deploying innovative, best practice communication approaches
