Project Overview

Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel’s government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. Its successes include many large, first-of-a-kind projects in government site management, environmental restoration, defense, space, energy, and national and homeland security. This position will provide support to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) located at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

UPF is a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar project and will be a first-of-its-kind complex for enriched uranium operations in support of Y-12 missions. UPF is one of the Department of Energy’s largest investments in Tennessee since the Manhattan Project and one of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s largest construction projects. When complete, UPF will: replace a 70-year-old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities well into the future.

The UPF project works on a 5-8 or 4-10 stand work week schedule depending on project requirements. Start times are flexible but the standard work week now is Monday-Thursday from 6:00am to 4:30pm.

Eligibility for this position requires US citizenship; successful candidate must provide proof of US citizenship in order to obtain badge access to the site. Candidate must complete security questionnaire and successfully clear site access requirements check. All employees are subject and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to obtain a security clearance, as applicable.

Position Summary

Essential duties include performing pipe stress analysis of systems in accordance with ASME B31.3 Code. The stress work includes the modeling of the piping systems to verify piping flexibility, stability and qualification of equipment nozzle loads. Pipe Stress Engineer in charge of originating pipe stress calculations using Autopipe Software. Document results within a calculation. Confirm existing design by closing existing assumptions within calculations as part of calculation confirmation.

Responsibilities

  • Confirming existing pipe stress calculations.

  • Originating new pipe stress calculations on an as needed basis.

  • Navigating the 3D model to identify locations of piping/supports for purposes of including seismic anchor motion values in pipe stress auto pipe model.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Level 1: BS degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 6 years of related experience.

  • Level 2: BS degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 9 years of related experience.

  • Must be a US citizen.

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, which includes verification of employment and education.

  • Must be able to obtain site security badge for access to work site.

  • Experience with ASME B31.3 and/or B31.1 and other relevant industry piping codes and standards.

  • Prior experience using pipe stress analysis programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Prior experience using a computer pipe stress analysis program.

  • Ability to navigate through the 3D model using software such as SmartPlant 3D and SmartPlant Reviewer or similar.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of software for creating calculations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in Auto Pipe Software.

  • Proficient in SmartPlant Software.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel.

  • PE Registration.

  • Previous Bechtel project experience.

  • Previous DOD/DOE project experience.
