We are hiring a Continuous Improvement Engineer to join Bayport, Texas site team.

The Bayport site in Pasadena, Tx is a manufacturing location to produce Kapton® polyimide films. The facility maintains the assets and capability to manufacture a diverse portfolio of different types of specialized polyimide film. These products are within the Interconnect Solutions business unit within the Electronics and Industrial Platform. They feed a very broad array of materials in the electronics, automotive, and aerospace industries.

The Continuous Improvement Engineer will provide support to process improvements overall at the plant but also develop subject matter expertise on a specific area(s) of the process. This facility is small which gives the opportunity to have a diverse array of work. In addition to focusing on improving existing processes, this roll plays a key part in commercialization of new film types to serve high-growth, fast-paced markets. This role is predominantly process focused.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead improvement projects to increase process capacity and reliability, improve product quality, increase yields, implement technical programs, etc. These projects would typically result in step change improvements (vs. day-to-day operations) within the scope of responsibility of the technical team and drive effective operation of the facility.

  • Lead and/or assist with complex troubleshooting, maintenance, root cause analysis and problem solving for production and quality as well as potentially backfill the production engineer if needed.

  • Support product commercialization at the facility. This can be front-end loading as well as active support of test runs up-to and including 24/7 test coverage. Test runs typically represent <10% of production time but are critical when they occur.

  • Support assessing 5-year improvement plans, prioritization and execution.

  • Provide technical basic data and technical leadership of small capital projects, technical leadership to larger capital projects, and other capital support as appropriate (working with capital resources).

  • Mentor less experienced engineers within the technology organization and engage and coach technicians as appropriate.

  • Support process technology documentation for their areas of responsibility.

  • Support Process Safety Management including safety capability improvements, element leadership, other aspects relevant to expertise, bandwidth, or personal development as applicable to work and/or needs of the facility.

  • Potentially support other non-process, technology needs as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering preferred, electrical or chemical considered.

  • 5+ years of experience in the chemical manufacturing industry and supporting operation in a technical capacity.

  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification preferred.

  • Schedule flexibility – ability and flexibility to adjust working schedule to support tests and improvement working including up to 12-hr shifts, nights, and/or weekends from standard weekday schedule.

  • Travel < 5% time.

  • This position requires access to export-controlled technology, technical data or defense services, as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate’s ability to access controlled technology, technical data or defense services as authorized pursuant to US regulation or an authorization obtained by DuPont approved by the controlling US government agency.
