American Express Digital Analytics Lead in Phoenix, Arizona

The Global Digital, Data & Analytics (DDA) team is responsible for overseeing marketing analytics, data products and platforms specific to the Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) business. Our team is dedicated to helping American Express to leverage enterprise-wide capabilities and assets to strengthen our integrated network and become an essential part of our customers’ digital lives. We directly support and strengthen our network of merchants by maintaining and enriching Amex closed loop merchant data, executing scaled and bespoke insights and analytics to drive merchant marketing and operations, and identifying prospective merchants and suppliers to bring into our integrated network.

Within the DDA team, the Digital Insights and Analytics team is cross-functional and collaborative, owning UX research, data capability, and digital analytics for merchant-facing digital experiences. These experiences include secure servicing journeys such as online statements and disputes, and marketing-focused journeys such as the merchant-focused Shop Small landing page and online merchant acquisition. Over 80% of American Express merchant servicing interactions occur through these experiences, making them core to the overall merchant experience.

We are seeking a Manager/Sr. Manager of Digital Insights and Analytics. In this role, you will empower product and marketing partners by delivering advanced analyses and helping them use data and research to drive decision-making in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Day-to-day, you will work with near-time merchant website clickstream data and offline merchant demographic data to extrapolate relevant insights and make strategic recommendations. You will also act as an advocate for data capability and UX research with our partners, identifying opportunities to bring additional team resources into strategic conversations.

Data sources we draw on include (but are not limited to) internal big data tables (Cornerstone), Adobe Analytics and Qualtrics. For this role, we are looking for someone who is curious and creative, as well as having deep analytical skills and a drive for excellence.

The position is hybrid onsite/remote, with two days per week in our NYC or PHX offices. Working fully remotely is also an option.

  • Evangelize digital analytics data to promote data-driven decision-making with partner teams

  • Define tagging and other data capture requirements for new digital experiences and work with data capability SME to develop and validate solutions

  • Identify opportunities to deepen our data capability and/or conduct UX research

  • Strong analytics skills, and experience applying them to solve business problems.

  • Proven ability to work with and analyze large data sets, including 3-5 years programming experience in SQL, Python and/or HQL

  • Creativity and curiosity, with an appetite to learn

  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills; able to collaborate with partners from a variety of backgrounds

  • Ability to excel as a standout colleague in a fast-paced, complex, and ambiguous business environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with American Express Merchant datasets and platforms is highly preferred

  • Exposure to digital analytics tools (e.g. Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics) is preferred but not required

Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
