Description

This role will lead the Portfolio Management organization in Digital Workplace. This includes financial and capacity planning, prioritization of spend, collaboration with product and servicing teams on vendor engagement, and partnering with the Technology Finance organization to effectively manage budget and investment funding.

Organizational Context

Digital Workplace (DW) is a part of the Technology organization that provides tools and services to American Express colleagues. This role will report into the VP, DW Strategy, Data, Architecture and Portfolio and will manage a team of managers and analysts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in the investment decisioning process by ensuring provision of information concerning specific business opportunities where technology can improve the value of the business.

  • Actively partners with key stakeholders to identify and prioritize projects/capabilities

  • Establishes and clearly communicates investment and transformational program strategies and progress to key partners

  • Defines and plans the investment portfolio, re-prioritizing investments based on resource availability and/or changing priorities.

  • Participates in the engagement of product engineering teams, negotiating where necessary to resolve any resourcing conflicts.

  • Monitors the progress of the portfolio delivery and ensures timely and effective communication of the status and assessment of risks/issues.

  • Drive innovative re-engineering and cost saving opportunities.

  • Works with the Finance organization to reconcile and forecast the cost of delivering the plan. Monitors and tracks multiple portfolios against delivery, cost, budget, forecast, schedule and quality targets

  • Collaborates with senior-level architects to ensure that all delivery activity is in support of the Technology/business strategy and goals of the line-of-business, while ensuring there is alignment of product engineering activity across the multiple product portfolios

  • Strong financial management and program/portfolio management experience and skills

  • Previous experience with large/global programs and/or portfolios

  • Well-developed communication and negotiation skills

  • Builds reciprocal relationships at all levels

  • Proven ability to adjust quickly to shifting priorities, multiple demands, ambiguity and rapid change

  • Ability to translate strategic opportunities and emerging technology solutions into tangible and practical plans that can be executed.

  • Expert level skills with communications and analytical tools (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
