This position is part of the Colleague Experience Group (CEG) Data Governance & Management function and reports to the Director, CEG Data Governance & Management.
CEG Data Governance & Management team is responsible for managing various aspects of colleague data such as Data Stewardship, Meta data management, Data Quality, Data validation, Data Democratization, policies & procedures for data governance & consumption, usage etc.
How will you make an impact in this role?
As a Manager of Colleague Data Management, you will perform the role of Data Steward, responsible for the day-to-day activities to maintain compliance with the data governance and management policies within Colleague Experience Group. You are responsible for identifying critical data, maintaining data definitions (Meta Data) for data across Colleague Systems, classifying data, supporting data sourcing / usage requests, measuring Data Quality Controls, and confirming Data Issues are remediated. You have the opportunity to partner across various enterprise organizations such as EDG, various business units, technology teams, and product/platform teams to define and implement the data governance strategy, monitoring and managing data quality, resolving data/platform issues, and driving consistency, usability, and governance of colleague data across CEG systems.
Lead and advance data governance principles, policies, and programs for stewardship, advocacy and custodianship of colleague data
Partner with colleagues & leaders within Colleague Data Office to contribute to the day-to-day activities related to the customization of the Data Governance, Management and Sharing program to the needs of the BU
Work with fellow Managers in the organization and the business unit to define and document Business Metadata for various data elements across Colleague Systems with the emphasis on Critical Data Elements. As necessary, support the classification of the level of sensitivity for restricted metadata and communicate any access requirements to Enterprise Data Governance, when applicable
Support communication related activities between your respective domain/business unit and Enterprise Data Governance for on Operational Risk Events (OREs) events involving critical data
As necessary, partner with colleagues within Colleague Data Office to review and oversee the enterprise scorecard for the aggregated data quality results of the Data Quality Controls for critical data
Understand various Data Management Policies prescribed by American Express and partner with CEG & Tech partners to implement them within the Business Unit.
Collaborate with Managers and data owners and users to modify or implement new repeatable and reliable businesses processes to implement truly effective data management principles
Support the partnership with legal, compliance and operational excellence to account for and uphold diverse privacy and compliance requirements across geographies
Harmonize key policies and guidelines (e.g. Data Quality, Data Definition, Data Creation. Data Sharing, Data Usage & Data Deletion policies) with the processes vital to carry out those policies, in collaboration with multi-functional partners
Minimum Qualifications
5 years of direct work experience in large scale/enterprise data projects, with at least 3 years of direct experience relating to creation and execution of formal data governance and/or data management programs
Consistent track record of understanding business challenges and strategies and connecting those to data and capabilities
Strong working knowledge of current and upcoming data governance, data management and data product techniques and trends, with a point of view on the evolving concepts and standard methodologies
Program management experience, with partners across a diverse, global set of business units.
Demonstrable experience of driving meaningful improvements in business value through data management and strategy
Ability to work with white space to craft and implement solutions to tackle sophisticated challenges.
Ability to put enterprise thinking first, connect the role’s agenda to enterprise priorities and balance the needs of customers, partners, colleagues & shareholders
Demonstrated learning agility, ability to make decisions quickly and with the highest level of integrity
Eagerness to test, learn, fail and improve is essential
Must have a positive, collaborative leadership style with colleague and customer first approach
Experience & exposure to people management, coaching & leadership
Preferred Qualifications
Good understanding of Human Resources (Colleague) Data would be a plus
Good understanding of Data Management practices in a large corporation would be a plus
Hands on experience and/or knowledge with Oracle HCM product would be considered an advantage
Good understanding of Data Lake concepts would be a plus

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually bonus benefits
