How will you make an impact in this role?
We are looking for an established and motivated Database administrator with experience in maintaining the health and availability of our production Postgres databases. In this position, you will be joining our global technology’s Database Operations team in American Express.
Proactively prevent business impacts and disruptions related to database failures.
Participate in technology bridge calls to circumvent unplanned business disruptions.
Assist with Postgres database upgrades and/or migrations as requested by database engineering, database development, database infrastructure and application partner teams.
Assist in Disaster Recovery testing.
Knowledge of ITIL processes – Incident, Problem & Change Management
Provide technical direction and assistance to our contractors.
Drive improvements within platforms.
Look for opportunities for developing automation, Efficiency and Self Service.
Minimum Qualifications
8 years of database administrator (DBA) experience in Oracle, Postgres, Netezza,and SQL Server databases
Good experience on typical DBA activities such as db creation, configuration, monitoring, alert, jobs configuration, troubleshooting etc
Strong experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting slowness issues
Experience on Yugabyte DBA activity is plus
Experience with troubleshooting, performance enhancements, latency,capacity, and availability issues in a production support environment.
Experience with workload manager and Replication strategies.
Understanding of the core concepts of backup and restores
Experience using DMC, Ansible, GitHub, Unix Shell Scripting, Python or Grafana is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong candidate in database field especially Oracle and Postgres database
Good understanding on Oracle, Postgres DBMS, set up, configuration, replica set up
Exposure to AWS & GCP public clouds especially on Aurora, Cloud SQL, Spanner and MySQL DBMS
Strong communication and coordination skills
Quick learner and ability to work independently.
Willing to work in weekend on rotation basis.
Qualifications
Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually bonus benefits
