About Enterprise Architecture:

Enterprise Architecture is an organization within the Chief Technology Office at American Express and it is a key enabler of the company’s technology strategy. The four pillars of Enterprise Architecture include:

  1. Architecture as Code : this pillar owns and operates foundational technologies that are leveraged by engineering teams across the enterprise.

  2. Architecture as Design : this pillar includes the solution and technical design for transformation programs and business critical projects which need architectural guidance and support.

  3. Governance : this pillar is responsible for defining technical standards, and developing innovative tools that automate controls to ensure compliance.

  4. Colleague Enablement: this pillar is focused on colleague development, recognition, training, and enterprise outreach.

What you will be working on:

We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join our Enterprise Architecture team. In this role you will be designing and implementing highly scalable real-time systems following the best practices and using the cutting-edge technology. This role is best suited for experienced engineers with broad skillset who are open, curious and willing to learn.

Qualifications :

What you will Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience

  • 6 years of progressive experience demonstrating strong architecture, programming and engineering skills.

  • Experience in building real-time, large scale, resilient and highly available cloud native systems

  • Ability to understand requirements, convert them into system designs, and lead implementation

  • Ability to make decisions, develop and present solution options, conduct technical assessments, articulate pros and cons, and recommend approaches

  • Ability to drive improvements, surface new ideas, conduct R&D, experiment and innovate

  • Ability to be a though leader to lead, partner, and drive collaboration across many stakeholders

  • Ability to lead by example, set clear goals, motivate and foster a results-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with cloud native architectures, micro-services and distributed systems design patterns

  • Hands on experience in building fault tolerant and resilient systems at scale

  • Experience with synchronous and asynchronous architectures, including messaging frameworks such as Kafka

  • Hands-on experience in building containerized applications on Kubernetes

  • Hands-on experience in designing and implementing REST/gRPC/WebSocket APIs

  • Firm understanding of API lifecycle, OpenAPI and API patterns is a must

  • Firm understanding of network architectures, L3/L4protocols, load balancers, DNS and low latency systems integration

  • Firm grasp of data structures, algorithms and patterns with fluency in programming languages like Java, Kotlin, Go

  • Experience with databases such as Cassandra, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, AWS RDS, GCP Cloud SQL and Big Query

  • Experience with in-memory computing (Apache Ignite, Memcached)

  • Experience with Open Tracing, Open Telemetry and logging using tools like Elastic Search, Splunk, Prometheus and Grafana

  • Hands-on experience with system performance testing, tuning and optimization

  • Hands-on experience with AWS and/or GCP is a plus

  • Experience in migrating on-prem apps to public cloud is a plus

  • UI experience using React, Node and JavaScript is a plus

  • Open-source community involvement is a plus

  • Industry recognized certifications is a plus

Qualifications

Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually bonus benefits
