The U.S. Consumer Services and Enterprise Digital & Data Technology Team brings together foundational strategic technology capabilities in digital experience engineering (Mobile and Web), AI/ML, marketing technology, enterprise communications, travel and lifestyle, and automation, grounded in our data technology model that prioritizes data governance. It employs a ground-breaking focus with development responsibilities for customer-facing capabilities that deepen and expand digital engagement, as well as core technical capabilities that cut across business lines and customer segments.

We’re looking for a highly skilled and motivated Software Engineer with a history of building applications on Google Cloud Platform using Spanner and Big Query, along with Java and Spring boot applications. Someone who fosters a culture of high quality and innovation using new capabilities to drive the release of resilient, robust, and performant solutions, to help us enhance a global platform that will form the backbone of the American Express Marketing ecosystem.

Joining the Marketing Technology team, this role will be focused on the delivery of new Targeting and Eligibility Platform, provide innovative solutions to satisfy the needs of our business. As an agile team we work closely with our business partners to understand what they require, and we strive to continuously improve as a team.

We work a hybrid schedule where we are in the office one day per week, and virtual the other days (though you’re welcome to come to the office as much as you’d like)

How will you make an impact in this role?

• As a part of our team, you will be developing innovative, high quality, and robust Marketing Targeting Platform

• Develop software in our technology stack which is constantly evolving but currently includes Java, Spring boot, Spark, GCP

• Work with Business partners and stakeholders to understand functional requirements, architecture dependencies, and business capability roadmaps

• Create technical solution designs to meet business requirements

• Taking your place as a core member of an Agile team driving the latest development practices

• Identify and drive reengineering opportunities, and opportunities for adopting new technologies and methods

• Suggest and recommend solution architecture to resolve business problems

• Perform peer code review and participate in technical discussions with the team on the best solutions possible

• Provide mentoring to other Engineers on the team

Minimum Qualifications

• 5 years of hands-on Software Development experience in Java, Rest API, and Spring boot

• 2 years of experience in Google Cloud Platform, Google Big Query, Google Big Table, Cloud Composer, Cloud Formation, Terraform, Google Cloud Spanner, Google Cloud Dataflow, IAM Policies, Spark, Google Cloud Storage

• BS or MS Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other technical field or equivalent work experience

• Ability to implement scalable, hard-working, secure, highly available solutions.

• In depth knowledge of HTTP, HTTP Proxies, web servers and API Gateways like APIGEE.

• Strong Object-Oriented Programming skills and design patterns

• Good understanding of CI/CD processes leveraging Jenkins, SBT, XLR and Maven, GitHub Actions

• Good knowledge and experience with configuration management tools like GitHub

• Strong expertise in SQL and database theory, and data analytics

• Strong analytical and problem-solving aptitude

• Good communication skills and teamwork

• Understanding of various SDLC methodologies, particularly Agile

• Willingness to learn new technologies and leverage them to their optimal potential

Preferred Qualifications

• Big Data Components/Frameworks such as Hadoop (MapR), Spark, Yarn

Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually bonus benefits
