The US Small and Mid-size Enterprise ("SME") team of 1000 Sales and Account Development professionals as well as a niche Underwriting Advisory team is responsible for acquisition, growth and retention of US companies up to $300M in annual revenues. By offering a suite of payment and lending products, American Express helps businesses of all sizes do more business, from everyday business spending, to travel, to business financing.

This is an opportunity to help implement and execute on US SME’s most important strategic priority – ensuring that the organization provides a best-in-class sales and account management experience that adheres to our AXP values and sales policies. The Commercial Effectiveness & Governance Team is responsible for overseeing overall quality and compliance with applicable laws/ regulations within Global Commercial Services, US SME. This Sr. Manager will be strategic and executional thinker who possesses the knowledge, integrity, and composure to understand, own, and optimize detailed end-to-end processes related to compliance and business conduct; interact with multiple key business partners; and help design and implement a long-term vision of success.

Key responsibilities:

  • Partner with Control Management, Line of Business Compliance Officer, and other business conduct partners and key business partners to monitor and assess end-to-end compliance for SME, with a particular focus on supporting the account development teams

  • Support critical line of business partners and Control Management with inquiries, remediations, and audits

  • Assist with remediation of compliance gaps across SME – whether self-identified or as a result of gaps identified by compliance partners

  • Ensure there is an adequate and effective sales practices and business conduct training program in place and delivered to commercial teams

  • Lead project management for SME business conduct initiatives

  • Own change management needs for business conduct initiatives and develop strategies to enable SME teams to implement changes effectively

  • Monitor SME Sales adherence to required sales practices guidelines including proper adherence to SIP and Rules of Engagement policies and required documentation and support in Salesforce

  • Help reinforce and improve a culture of compliance across SME

  • Lead the performance of compliance analysts

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Leader with a track record of the highest level of integrity, with experience working with Sales and/or Account Development teams driving compliance initiatives.

  • Experience working with compliance-related initiatives and familiarity with Control Management, LOBCO, and Internal Audit processes

  • Strategic thinker with ability to ensure effective implementation of complex strategies

  • Outstanding ability to collaborate with business partners

  • Proven analytical understanding; with ability to synthesize data into a cohesive message and strategy

  • Effective oral and written communications skills

  • Experience in project management, ability to set priorities and handle tasks to get results within short time frame while implementing longer-term strategy

  • Strong relationship/interpersonal skills with ability to build trust and followership

  • Ability to handle critical issues with complete confidentiality

  • Experience dealing and interacting with commercial teams including both sales and account development practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Sales and Account Development systems and tools (i.e., Salesforce, Tableau, Office Suite) a plus

Qualifications

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually bonus benefits
