The Opportunity

This position works out of our Plymouth, MN location in the Structural Heart (SH) division. Our business purpose is to restore health and improve quality of life through the design and provision of device and management solutions for the treatment of structural heart disease.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced, highly capable Principal Financial Analyst. This position is a critical role within SH Operations Finance that partners with various levels of leadership to drive financial ownership and business excellence. You will be responsible for supporting several divisional budgets, including Quality and Project Expense, and partnering with leadership to provide valuable and strategic insight to influence and achieve financial goals. Additionally, you will manage the capital planning process for the SH Franchise, prepare consolidations for leadership and provide recommendations to ensure investment aligns with overall strategy.

What You’ll Work On

  • Analysis and forecasts in support of annual Plan and quarterly forecasts for Quality and Project Expense budgets. Perform variance analysis and identify key drivers in support of business decisions with comparisons to relevant benchmarks. Conduct regular financial reviews with business partners to explain financial performance and make recommendations aligned with overall strategy and financial commitments.

  • Prepare and consolidate Capital submissions for Plan, quarterly forecasts and Abbott’s long-range plan. Prepare Capital summaries with concise business context for leadership presentations with Operations, Division and Corporate stakeholders. Apply strategic mindset and partner with the manufacturing sites to ensure capital projects are aligned with our objectives to elevate the SH franchise portfolio.

  • Prepare monthly capital expenditure reporting for submission to Medical Devices Division and internal reporting. Reconcile monthly activity across multiple ERP systems and identify key drivers for variance analysis commentary.

  • Participate in the roll-out of balance sheet forecasting and reporting as it relates to fixed assets. Work with the project team and SH Division to support tie-out of existing balance sheet accounts with respect to SH Operations activity.

  • Facilitate monthly Capital Committee meetings with project owners and SH leadership in order to gain alignment on proposed projects. Ensure close-out of follow-ups and obtain leadership’s final decision to provide closure to project owners.

  • Primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Capital Expenditure (RCE) package proposals. Support project managers, review packages, and provide guidance to ensure the write-up is concise and polished and the financials are accurate. Ensure packages are comprehensive of all requirements per Abbott policies.

  • Controllership of all areas of responsibility with respect to month end-close, ensuring compliance with Abbott policies.

  • Participate in ad hoc projects or complete other tasks as assigned by manager.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline

  • Five to seven years of progressive accounting and/or financial planning and analysis experience

  • Advanced level of proficiency with Excel and financial modeling, as well as experience creating PowerPoint presentations and financial visuals to effectively tell the financial story.

  • Demonstrated ability of collaborating and partnering with business colleagues at various levels in a polished and tactful manner.

  • Highly collaborative and motivated; seeks-out additional projects or tasks as an opportunity to grow and help the team while prioritizing primary responsibilities.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly, concisely and accurately communicate with all levels and functions of the organization. Ability to articulate financial results based on audience.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effective at prioritizing and handling deliverables in a timely manner.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and determination for accuracy.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of balance sheet transactions and their impacts on the income statement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advance degree and/or credentials (i.e. MBA / CPA)

  • Medical device experience

  • Experience with SAP ERP and Hyperion Planning/Essbase systems

  • Experience in cost accounting / manufacturing industry

The base pay for this position is $85,300.00 – $170,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
