Quality Engineer

Position Information:

  • This is an on-site position in Pontiac, IL.

  • Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

  • This position will support Internal Quality for Large Aftertreatment Products.

Role Definition:

Facilitates inspection and audits to track, analyze, and report on the Quality of materials, processes, and products to ensure conformance to company's quality standards. Facilitates internal defect resolution for welding, fabrication, and assembly areas in Large Aftertreatment.

What You Will Do:

  • Monitoring of Scrap and Rework for Large Aftertreatment.

  • Facilitating Root Cause Corrective Action for identified top 5 internal scrap and rework issues.

  • Participates in Walk Backs to determine Process Failures.

  • Collaborates with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure Work Instruction effectively and accuracy.

  • Monitors and reviews Quality Audit results to initiate action or stop if necessary.

  • Monitors and reviews Torque Audit results to initiate action or stop if necessary.

  • Coordinates and schedules ISO and Marine Large Aftertreatment Audits for Pontiac facility.

  • Reviews internal PPAP, PCN and Deviation Requests.

  • Participates in Material Review, SORT Team, Production Line Board and Job Readiness meetings.

  • Responsible to manage and lead all quality control processes needed to achieve our internal certification KPIs especially As-Delivered Quality as measured by PPM to external customers.

What You Will Have:

Experience with fabrication and welding.

Experience in facilitating Quality Objectives.

Quality Management: Knowledge of Quality Management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the Quality goals of the organization.

  • Utilizes Quality Key Process Indicators and Metrics relevant to drive excellence.

  • Adheres to organizational Quality Management processes and practices.

  • Applies key aspects of continuous improvement processes and evaluates impact on Quality.

  • Uses Problem Solving evaluation tools and techniques such as 8D.

Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.

  • Accurately gauges and understands the cost of defects and how it impacts the customer.

  • Utilizes specific approaches and tools for monitoring inputs and outputs.

  • Processes limited amounts of detailed information with good accuracy.

  • Understands and drives Continuous Improvement through Process Improvement.

Collaborating: Knowledge of collaborative techniques; ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.

  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of the concept of collaborative processes.

  • Explains the concept of collaboration as applicable to organizations.

  • Provides examples of how collaboration has helped achieve organizational goals.

  • Contrasts collaborative with competitive operating styles in organizations.

Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.

  • Contributes to the development and implementation of specific manufacturing procedures.

  • Investigates the need to refer potential exceptions upward for review and approval.

  • Explains the rationale for procedures and standards in own area of responsibility.

  • Participates in the implementation of manufacturing standards and procedures to one's own function.

  • Provides feedback for improvement of procedures.

Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA): Knowledge of the concepts, principles and techniques of root cause corrective action (RCCA); ability to use a structured approach to identify the causes of defects in a manufacturing environment and the counter measures needed to prevent recurrences.

  • Utilizes techniques, such as Five Why, Fish-bone Diagram, Is / Is Not etc., to investigate basic problems, determine the Symptom, ICA, and Problem Description. Determine Root Cause and Implement PCA.

  • Locates process errors that result in nonconforming product.

  • Pinpoints Human Factors that contribute error in manual human driven processes.

  • Practices RCCA as a continual iterative process.

Top Candidates May Also Have:

  • ASQ Certification.

  • Engineering Degree.

Summary Pay Range:

$87,480.00 - $131,280.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
