BAE Systems Process Safety Manager in Radford, Virginia

Job Description

BAE Systems is searching for aProcess Safety Managerto support at its Radford, Virginia site. In this role as a Process Safety Manager, you will be charged in developing and maintaining a compliant Safety Management System with the goal of being world class. You'll ensure the robust program management for each of the OSHA and PSM/RMP programs and serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in regards to Process Safety Management (PSM).

As the site's Process Safety Manager, you'll provide oversight of PSM/RMP compliance by:

  • Developing and designing a robust system for the management of the 14 elements of PSM;

  • Ensuring that the PSM 14 elements of the management system are properly parsed out:

  • Implementing checks and balances to ensure the system is performing;

  • Effectively tracking compliance actions and PHA recommendations.

  • Developing and delivering effective PSM training to all effected staff by:

  • Developing training for different levels of employee, both awareness and in-depth levels;

  • Testing for comprehension of the subject matter.

  • Monitoring the implementation of PSM requirements by:

  • Conducting validations audits and inspections;

  • Developing and tracking Key Performance Indicators (KPIs);

  • Tracking Corrective Actions and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) recommendations.

  • Assisting Operations in finding solutions to address complex compliance challenges by:

  • Leading projects to solves issues;

  • Project mapping path forward to resolution;

  • Scoping out engineering solutions as needed.

  • Developing and updating PSM/RMP policy and procedures for plant-wide implementation;

  • Facilitating, leading PHAs, and providing training to operations on PHA facilitation (HAZOPs, LOPA);

  • Serving as the SME on the Management of Change process/system, training and authorizing MOC coordinators;

  • Ensuring audit readiness at all times and organizing 3rd party audits of the RMP & PSM system. Acting as the Site lead during any PSM/RMP regulatory audit;

  • Effectively communicating with site leadership, including the site QSHE director, and our government counterparts of emerging compliance issues and solutions & project/initiative status;

  • Developing the capabilities of the PSM team deliver robust compliance;

  • Ensuring budget compliance;

  • Working with peers to ensure their functional areas are working with PSM in mind to ensure compliance and to set goals and objectives.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Typically requires a Bachelor s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, or a related technical Engineering discipline, and 10 (ten) years of related experience;

  • Knowledge developing and implementing OSHA programs, including PSM;

  • 5 years management experience;

  • Demonstrated experience with written safety program development and implementation;

  • Experience using PHA Pro software;

  • Process Safety Management experience;

  • Experience training, both in creating training curriculum and delivery.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Master s degree in a Safety or Industrial Health discipline, or related technical discipline;

  • In-depth knowledge of developing, training, and implementing OSHA programs, including PSM;

  • Implementation of a lean PSM;

  • Professional certification (CIH,PE,CSP,CHMM);

  • Explosive manufacturing &/or chemical environment experience;

  • KMS software use;

  • CAD or VISO experience;

  • DOD GOCO experience.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $127900 - $217400

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
