Job Description

Seeking self-motivated, reliable, and persistent, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) professional with recent EHS experience supporting manufacturing, R&D or other impactful business areas within the pharmaceutical or related industry. Must have strong management and leadership skills. As part of Global Safety and the Environment (GSE), the successful candidate will have responsibility for the EHS teams supporting our owned and leased Commercial Office locations across our Company. Successful candidate will be part of the GSE EHS management team supporting the Global Pharmaceutical Operations (GPO) production facilities and Commercial operations.

Working within a matrixed organization, the person should possess strong emotional intelligence, influencing, problem solving and decision-making skills. The ability to think strategically and act tactically through site EHS contacts is important, as the contacts are not within the GSE reporting structure.

Our Company considers compliance, both to national regulation and company standards, as the operational baseline and the person selected will have this mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Acting with considerable self-direction, oversee and align professional EHS staff activities to ensure EHS compliance at Commercial office locations.

  • Coach Commercial leaders to be visible EHS advocates. Ensure comprehensive change management of all Company and site initiatives to maintain ongoing compliance with regulatory and Company requirements.

  • Implement our Company’s corporate EHS strategy at the site operations level: evaluate numerous initiatives, ensure robust process, systems, and resources are in place for all areas of accountability, drive internal audit/self-assessment programs to monitor program effectiveness.

  • Assure completion of all regulatory submissions, notifications, etc. to maintain compliance with country, local and company standards.

  • Ensure systems are in place at sites to track EHS performance metrics within the operational area and to manage EHS concerns and promote site communications.

  • Track Commercial EHS performance metrics and ensure facilitation of necessary EHS meetings and communications.

  • Partner with GSE Centers of Excellence to develop guidance for site operations on the impact of new regulations and Company requirements and how best to implement.

  • Interact and collaborate with site senior management teams and other senior level executives across functional areas.

  • Communicate clearly and concisely complex technical and regulatory information to both senior level leaders and site EHS teams.

  • Exercise good judgment to discern critical issues and events for escalation to senior level management.

  • Partner with other Global EHS leaders to assist site operations leaders with implementation of EHS requirements, EHS Standards, and the EHS Office Manual.

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Company’s Motor Vehicle Safety Program.

Education Requirements

  • Four-year degree with a concentration in Environmental or Safety related technical discipline preferred.

Experience and Skills

Required

  • Fluency in English

  • Minimum ten years professional work coupled with seven years applied professional EHS work

  • Strong knowledge multinational regulations

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully negotiate with regulatory agencies and senior business leaders

Preferred

  • Relevant professional certification(s)

  • Lean/Six Sigma

  • Experience managing a global and culturally diverse team in multiple time zones

  • Strategic and constructive leadership and change management skills

  • Exposure to senior management teams to set strategy and make decisions

  • Strategic and effective written and verbal communication

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

The Company is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this job in certain states and cities within the United States. Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and education.

Expected US salary range:

$169,700.00 - $267,200.00
