Purpose:
The Senior Scientist will apply their scientific expertise to design, execute, analyze and report research findings to advance R&D projects in a highly regulated Medical Device research facility. The candidate will design methods, test prototypes, and provide robust data driven scientific insights from in vitro microbiology studies. The work will encompass GMP-compliant as well as non-GMP research. The primary responsibilities include significant hands-on laboratory work and document process management.
You will be responsible for:
Design, manage and conduct microbiology lab testing for new product development and life cycle management projects of combination products, including sample and process management and interaction with stakeholders and auditors. Design innovative in vitro experiments that advance our front-end innovation programs, exploring novel technologies in the medical device industry.
Become a qualified subject matter expert on routine and applied GMP-compliant research methodologies in medical device microbiology and ensure adherence to stringent quality and compliance standards of the organization.
Collaborate with internal associates and external partners to further Ethicon’s research programs and grow capabilities in understanding and producing antimicrobial products.
Train lab associates on new or advanced techniques, and author/present manuscripts, posters, or other professional publications as appropriate.
This candidate will contribute to Ethicon’s intellectual property as appropriate and research, purchase, and install equipment as needed to further Ethicon’s research capabilities.
Qualifications:
Required:
BS in Microbiology or biological science with 4+ years of experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, or consumer applied microbiology
Laboratory experience in a BSL2 microbiology lab environment
Laboratory experience executing routine lab assays such as MIC, time kill, bacterial growth promotion, AET/preservative efficacy testing
Experience with aseptic techniques, autoclave use, media preparation, spectrophotometers, colony counters
Experience in GxP laboratory
Ability to work in a project-driven, collaborative team setting in the Medical Device industry
Preferred:
MS in Microbiology or biological Science with 2+ years’ experience or a PhD in Microbiology or biological Science with 1+ year of experience in applied microbiology
Knowledge or experience in test method validation, industrial sterilization methods, controlled environments, or medical devices
Experience in GxP medical device laboratory processes including audit participation.
Other:
This position is a lab-based, full time onsite, 5 days a week in Raritan, NJ
Ability to travel up to 10%, domestic and international

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$90,000-$140,000
Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
