Job Summary:

Bechtel is currently seeking a Facilities Designer to join our Corporate Facilities team in Reston, Virginia. The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing various facility management and office services functions, including daily office operations, space design, vendor contracts, space management, landlord coordination, and ensuring compliance with office safety and security requirements.

This position is based in Reston, VA, but will also provide support for our Washington, DC office as needed. #LI-KL1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plan and coordinate office designs, construction projects, major moves, renovations, space allocation, and furniture/equipment distribution, requiring sound judgment and experience.

  • Assist in preparing designs, layouts, drawings, and specifications.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand space requirements, workflow processes, and project objectives.

  • Conduct space evaluations to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.

  • Develop comprehensive facility plans, including layouts, space allocations, and furniture/equipment recommendations.

  • Utilize CADD software to create detailed floor plans and conceptual drawings.

  • Stay informed on industry trends and best practices in facility planning and design.

  • Determine subcontractor and resource needs for various facility projects.

  • Coordinate design and construction efforts with office services staff, suppliers, and subcontractors.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements for facility projects.

  • Support general facility operations, including furniture relocation, maintenance inquiries, and office signage/whiteboard/artwork installations.

  • Assist in executing and managing facility service contracts.

  • Oversee complex office services functions with minimal supervision, exercising discretion and independent judgment in prioritizing tasks.

  • Develop and implement improved systems and procedures.

  • Coordinate and liaise with landlords and building engineers.

  • Lead emergency preparedness, safety, and wellness programs, including documentation and planning.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience, or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry standards, practices, and regulatory requirements related to facility management and office services.

  • Ability to effectively manage and administer contracts with suppliers, contractors, and key industry partners related to facility operations.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently without direct supervision.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all organizational levels.

  • Proficiency in space planning software.

  • Proficiency in CADD.

  • First Aid/AED certification is preferred.

  • Emergency preparedness and mental health awareness program knowledge is preferred.

  • Active accreditation as a Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Certified BOMA Real Property Administrator, or equivalent is nice to have, but not required.
