Project Overview:

Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. This role will be based in Reston, VA, with periodic business travel to Poland offices and sites as required.

This is a full time role that may offer part-time telework flexibility in the Reston, VA project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in Reston, VA for the first three months, then may offer part-time telework flexibility. Please be advised that the telework designation of the position may be changed in the future at the discretion of the company or project.

Job Summary:

The Senior Electrical Designer will be responsible for raceway design, equipment location and layout, C&R schedule inputting and updating using Setroute, conduit, and raceway design. Responsible to produce lower and higher tier drawings and documentation in accordance with established conceptual design and scope, modelling, including cable pull calculations, design of lighting using AGi32, grounding layout, grounding designs/calculations and lightning protection systems. Develops specifications for equipment and material where deviation from standard documentation is required. #LI-SNH

Major Responsibilities:

  • Leads or administers work of electrical designers and drafters for a business line technology to include the preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models and construction drawings.

  • Develops designs for complete and complex electrical engineering systems such as earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing with minimum supervision from which detailed scale models and/or construction drawings are completed.

  • Ensures electrical systems design comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.

  • Assists in constructing detailed scale models.

  • Prepares or assists with the preparation of assigned material requisitions and bid evaluations.

  • Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved electrical design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation, and construction economy.

  • Participates in constructability reviews.

  • Prepares design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort.

  • Coordinates or makes jobsite visits, as required, to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents.

  • Reviews electrical design scope changes, as required, for project management.

  • Ensures electrical systems design comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.

  • Interdisciplinary coordination and training.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires associate's degree (or international equivalent) and 7-10 years of relevant experience or 11-14 years of relevant work experience.

  • Must be authorized to live and work in the country without sponsorship.

  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with SmartPlant 3D, Smart sketch, AutoCAD design tools.

  • Prior experience working in a Nuclear, Quality, and Safety Environment.

  • Experience in nuclear plant design (power plant or DOE facility).

  • Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.

  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.

  • Extensive knowledge application of NEC Code and ANSI/IEEE Standards.

  • Extensive knowledge of electrical raceway and electrical equipment layouts.

  • Previous hands-on or extensive working knowledge industry-wide design tools, such as CAD 2D/3D, cable designing, and routing software.

  • Must have experience with an electronic Cable Management System, such as the SETROUTE program, and be able to input and complete corrections to the database.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate and work well with others and within a team.

  • Must be able to work well with other disciplines.

  • Must know how to use computer programs such as the Microsoft Windows suite of programs.

  • Ability to cope with conflicting deadline, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiar with Bechtel standard programs.

  • Hands-on experience with SETROUTE program and be able to input and complete corrections in the database.

  • Familiar with all Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs) and their application to projects.

  • Knowledge of design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPS).

  • Experience in construction interface and resolving field problems.

  • Experience with AP1000 Nuclear Power Plant Design.
