Project Overview:

Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will participate in the design, development, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. You will collaborate and support other engineering disciplines for mechanical matters. Your professional work knowledge and abilities through the application of standard mechanical engineering techniques and criteria will enable you to make impactful contributions to the team.

This position is a full-time role located in the Richland, Washington project office, and works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off. #LI-TN1

Major Responsibilities:

Level 1

  • Participates in the design, development, modification and evaluation of mechanical components and processes used utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)​

  • Compiles, adjusts, and correlates data that will develop professional work knowledge and abilities through the application of standard mechanical engineering techniques, procedures and criteria utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)​

  • Provides input to and/or maintains technical logs and records​

  • Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines​

  • Provides direct support to other engineering disciplines for mechanical related matters​

  • Coordinates development and presentation of material when requested

  • Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals

Level 2

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications​

  • Provides technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and will interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards​

  • Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project mechanical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Level 1: Requires a BS degree in Mechanical, Nuclear or Chemical engineering with 1-2 years of experience or 5-6 years of relevant work experience

  • Level 2: Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Mechanical, Nuclear or Chemical engineering and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)

  • Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication, planning and organizational skills are essential.

  • Experience in fluid system design in processing facilities, DOE facilities, or DOD facilities preferred.

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining EIT or Professional Registration (PE) License in Mechanical, Nuclear or Chemical Engineering within one (1) year of hire date.
