Project Overview

We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

Full-Time In Office: This position is a full-time role located in the Richland, Washington project office, and works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.

Position Summary

Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, adaptation, and modification of standard techniques, guidelines, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to startup, maintenance, operation, or testing. May include relocation to jobsite to perform specific startup activities as assigned.

Plans and conducts independent work requiring judgment in the application of operations and startup techniques. Normally uses conventional approaches to startup, maintenance, operations or testing problems encountered.

Provides technical direction and assigns work to engineers, technicians, crafts or others as assigned for specific projects or tasks.

Responsibilities

  • The Lead I&C Startup Engineer will support plant start-up and commissioning process. The lead will be responsible for managing instrumentation commissioning, including assigning systems and responsibilities to the I&C startup engineers and technicians under his/her direction. This will require coordinating with mechanical, electrical and control systems disciplines within the startup organization to complete all required testing from component level through integrated operation with the rest of the facility.

  • Development of documentation for system testing and turnover including scoping of drawings and Inspec, Teamworks, participating in preparing system preoperational testing procedures and other similar required documents.

  • Direct and manage I&C subcontract and technicians.

  • Prepare detailed startup plans for the project commissioning activities.

  • Aid provide OJT training of client personnel.

  • Provide input to engineering on revisions required to system descriptions, vendor operating and maintenance manuals, etc. based on review of documents during development of the preoperational test procedures and executing of the commissioning to ensure all such documents are consistent.

  • Monitor and maintain the applicable I&C startup budget accounts.

  • Direct, conduct and participate in system turnover walkdowns, both Construction and Client turnovers, including development, and tracking and resolution of punchlist items.

  • Work hours as required, including shiftwork, overtime, weekends, and holidays as necessary to support the project.

  • Provide input for presentations to management, the client or others as directed.

  • Perform other duties as directed in support of project activities.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Level 1: A bachelor’s degree in engineering, a hard science or mathematics from an accredited college or university, or a current or previously held industry or military license/certification/qualification, or a sufficient number of specialized courses in an appropriate engineering or scientific discipline to meet the job requirements, or extensive progressive work experience in the power generation industry and 6 years of progressive experience; In lieu of formal degree a minimum of 12 years of progressive-related experience.

  • Level 2: A bachelor’s degree in engineering, a hard science or mathematics from an accredited college or university, or a current or previously held industry or military license/certification/qualification, or a sufficient number of specialized courses in an appropriate engineering or scientific discipline to meet the job requirements, or extensive progressive work experience in the power generation industry and 9 years of progressive experience; In lieu of formal degree a minimum of 15 years of progressive-related experience.

  • At least four years experience in supervising and managing craft workers to perform maintenance or commissioning activities.

  • Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to interact closely and frequently with client management and operations and maintenance personnel while maintaining necessary levels of commercial awareness.

  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Word and Excel;

  • Must be able to walk at least 3 miles per day over uneven ground and be able to climb stair towers 75’ in height at least 6 times per day to access project equipment.
