About this job

CarMax is seeking a learning and development leader to support our Customer Relations iconic training programs. The Learning Developer is responsible for translating user requirements and training designs into quality, technology-based solutions. This position requires a solid understanding of eLearning development strategies and the ability to: create and develop highly interactive, branching multimedia content using Articulate 360, Vyond, Adobe Creative Suite, and Office 365 Suite. The developer will partner with Customer Relations Managers as well as strategic business partners to create and execute various aspects of onboarding and continuous training of our Associates. You will have a direct impact on improving the performance of our business and ensuring iconic experiences for our customers as they complete their CarMax experience.

What you will do – Essential Responsibilities

In this role your responsibilities are focused on but not limited to:

  • Work with internal customer groups to conduct needs analyses through interviews with subject-matter experts.

  • Analyze training needs to determine the appropriate training objectives and delivery methods.

  • Design, maintain, and execute organized project plans that provide clear line of site into timelines and project status.

  • Develop innovative, interactive training courses using Articulate 360 or similar e-learning development tool, in line with CarMax Learning standards.

  • Partner with other training team members to review and update the design of training programs, or develop custom graphics, as needed.

  • Assist with deployment of communication materials through multiple platforms including MS Office, SharePoint, Articulate 360, Adobe, Workday, and video production.

  • Support organization and maintenance of training document libraries, including, but not limited to, the CarMax Way and SharePoint.

  • Track and report metric results for initiatives and business-area goals using the company’s Learning Management System/Software.

  • Maintain knowledge bases for department execution.

  • Communicate effectively with all team members and business partners.

  • Deliver learning curriculum and programs that include new hire, skill enhancement training, and additional curriculum as needed.

  • Exhibit a commitment to continuous learning. This includes pursuing development activities and opportunities to obtain additional expertise and strengthen core skills.

Purpose of the role

The Learning Developer position supports all initiatives in the Customer Relations Operations department while serving as a functional and administrative resource for all aspects of department-specific and company wide iconic training. This position is fast-paced, and candidates must be able to prioritize simultaneous demands while providing exceptional customer service to all business partners. As a Learning Developer, you will play a critical role in the learning and development of our associates by creating and facilitating interactive learning products that enhance associate performance and engagement.

Qualifications and requirements

  • 2-5 years instructional design experience required; graphic design skills a plus

  • Proficiency in eLearning software and systems including but not limited to:

  • Articulate Storyline 360 and Articulate Rise 360

  • Vyond animation software

  • Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)

  • Adobe suite of programs (Captivate, Photoshop, Acrobat, Premiere Pro, etc.) and video editing software (Final Cut Pro) a plus

  • Exceptional writing skills with a strong sense of quality control

  • Strong organization and planning skills; prior team project/collaborative experience a plus

  • Classroom/virtual facilitation experience

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment while delivering exceptional results

  • Highly productive, demonstrating the ability to manage competing tasks and demands

  • Contact center/customer relations experience preferred

  • Must live within a 60 minute commute of Richmond CEC
