ABOUT THE POSITION

The Enterprise Commerce Capabilities Technology Manager is responsible for leading a team of engineer’s developing a platform of modern Point of Sale, Order Management, and Drawer & Safe Management systems. Responsibilities include oversight of development, support and crafting the team’s strategic mission within Technology, ensuring positive interaction with our Product Managers, customers, and external partners. This position requires a strong business acumen, interpersonal communication, organizational and managerial skills.
The Technology Manager at CarMax is a people leader who reports to and works with the Sr. Technology Manager to define and implement solutions that drive speed and quality while supporting our strategic mission and plans. Your former software engineering experience with a retail or financial business background will help you lead a team that develops modern enterprise platform capabilities that are transforming our commerce solutions. You will be responsible for identifying high performing talent, gaps in talent, and recruit, train and develop associates to close those gaps. The Manager mentors and develops future leaders in courageous leadership, associate development, and communication skills, while identifying the appropriate goals for the team.
WHAT YOU WILL DO – ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Qualifications
5+ years hands-on experience in software engineering of highly scalable application systems development, implementation, and support.
3+ years’ experience in Cloud Engineering and/or SaaS products preferred.
3+ years’ experience in building and managing retail or financial related applications and systems.
Knowledge of container technologies, version control systems (GitHub), build management and CI/CD tools and monitoring tools, preferred.
Management Qualifications:
BS/BA degree - IT related, preferred.
1 to 3+ years' experience managing direct reports.
3+ years of experience required leading software projects leveraging Agile practices, required.
Demonstrated leadership skills – can apply clear direction and priorities to teams.
Serves as an empowering coach to the team by providing them with the resources, training, feedback, and a sounding-board to be successful in their roles balancing technical debt with speed-to-delivery customer focused team.

Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the Richmond, VA CarMax Technology Innovation Center or the Dallas, TX Technology Hub and have a Hybrid work arrangement.
Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
